How do I buy points for a disney reosrt vacation

I have been researching this site all afternoon. My family and i want to stay at WDW this winter. Is there anyone out there that can simply explain how I can tsart the process, and find out how many points I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

5 months out is fairly short notice in DVC terms but february is hopefully a slower period...

You'll want to post your request on the DVC Rent/Trade Board to see if a member can assist with the dates, resort and type of room you'll want.

In addition to the links already provided, be sure to read the sticky threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board before posting. You can submit your own request (use "Reservation Wanted" as the title) or respond to any of the threads by members offering to make a reservation (those are titled Points for Rent).

Up at the top of this page is a clickable link to "DVC Point Charts". That is one place to start. The fact that you are looking fairly late in the process means you may not actually have as much of a choice as if you had been searching earlier. Decide on the size unit you will need and the resorts you will accept. Then contact someone on the rent/trade board who is offering enough points to cover that reservation and go from there.

Be sure you understand that renting from a DVC member is not the same as reserving a reservation from a travel agent or from Disney. You will NEVER have any control over the reservation, and you will not be able to change anything once the reservatoin is made. Also be advised that you might have to pay in full very soon and it might not be refundable. There is a minimum amount of risk, but there is also risk to the owner whom you will be renting from, so most rentals take an amount of trust on both sides.

Just wanted to add that you will not be buying points, but will be renting a reservation that will be priced as points.
