Did I imagine it? I could have sworn I've read posts from members who purchased DVC with a credit card to earn miles. Then they paid off the credit card with a home equity loan. That way the buyer earns miles AND deducts the home equity interest.

That was our plan until I inquired about a resale...broker said it's not possible to buy with cc since cc transactiions are disputable after closing. Makes sense.

So...did I imagine it? If anyone has done the miles & deduction twofer, please let me know how.

Thanks.

We purchased through DVC directly and placed our deposit on American Express. We got a loan through DVC for the balance.

If you can purchase your whole cost on a cc, I would buy an add on. In seven years I've gotten over 300,000 membership awards points from AE. I've gotten home theatre equipment, digital camcoders, tv's, etc. All from my little ole AECC!;)

You can use a credit card to purchase through DVC but if you purchase through resale they do not accept credit cards. One suggestion if you purchase through resale is to call your credit card company and ask for a check which you can use to write off your credit card account. That way it will post to your credit card and the resale will receive a check for payment. Make sure you'll still get miles and that it does not fall under the catagory of "cash advance" which does not earn miles.

We just put an 100 pt add-on at VB on our Continental Master Card, so we got 6900 FF miles :D , we did the add-on through DVC. We have done 3 other add-ons though DVC on our credit card with no problems.

I checked re-sale once and they told me the same thing, can't put it on the credit card. So going through DVC made more sense for us with a VB add-on and MB's. I also got the last 100 pts for our use yr (Sept) at VB.:D

We used our AE card and got miles. We even had a home equity line loan already set up when we purchased. Hence, our purchase into the DVC was simple. No complications at all.

I am forever getting offers from my credit cards companies to transfer balances at special rates, with checks enclosed. Last time I got a good one (6% until paid off), I went shopping for a resale contract. Found one right before Disney started buying them all up and paid with the check. I didn't get miles for it though. Diana

Like some of the others, I financed directly through DVC. I made my down-payment with a credit card and picked-up the milage. When I got home, I sent a payment to the credit card company so I didn't have 21% interest laying around. In effect, I got my milage and my DVC property, and I am very happy about it. :smooth:

When we joined last year, we paid with our newly acquired Hilton HHonors American Express card, and got over 45,000 HHonors points. This gave us two free nights in an Embassy Suites, with lots left over!

No need to use a check - we just gave the card number to our guide over the phone. And yes, we paid it off with a home equity loan at 4.25%. Sure beats Disney's rates.

Thanks, everyone.

Sounds like the credit card transactions were either handled by Disney or for the initial deposit only. Not for the entire purchase and not for resale. Oh, well. Home equity it is.

Wish us luck. We make our offer today (mon 4/7/03).
Thanks.

If you haven't already settled up with DVD, you can always _ask them_ if you can pay the entire cost with a CC.
