How do I arrange Talking Mickeys delivered to room as surprise?

I would like to arrange to have Talking Mickeys waiting for my grandkids when they arrive at their room. I won't be arriving until a few days later so I can't do it from there. Is there any service that would arrange the surprise at the BWI? Do the Talking Mickeys only talk when they are moved around the parks or can they be prompted to talk at any time? Are they appropriate for a 2-1/2 year old and a 4 year old?

I am having the concierge folks at WL handle this for me. If you are not staying in concierge, I don't see why you couldn't just call the front desk at BWI and see if a CM there will take care of it for you. I am having it charged to my room bill (I think they are about $50 each). Since you are not arriving at the same time as your grandchildren, they may be able to just put it on your credit card.
As to the age appropriateness, I have no idea! My son is 16 months old. I am guessing I will have more fun out of it this trip than he will! LOL! I am hoping we can use again on future trips and get our money out of it.

I think the Pal Mickeys are perfect for a 2 1/2 and 4 year old. They will really help keeping little ones entertained in line for rides and on the bus.

Trust me..that little guy can talk all say long, even if you aren't near the parks.

"Oops, Grandma..I accidently squeezed him again!"

About the millionth time, Mickey went in the drawer for a nap LOL!

He tells jokes outside of the park and has three games. He is full of facts in the parks. He shuts up during most shows..but it was proven, not for all of them.

I think you should call the Disney Florist (www.disneyflorist.com) at 407-827-3505 and ask if they can create a gift basket that contains Pal Mickeys. They *might* be able to do so because I found the following on their website:

The gift basket department offers a huge variety of baskets, of just about every size and shape. From romantic to Disney theme, to fruit and gourmet, including adult beverages.

Add a Disney character to any arrangement or basket.

With Disney imagination, the creations are endless...

It's definitely worth a shot. Good luck.

Thanks for all your great suggestions. I have e-mailed the Disney World Florist for info and I'll post it when I hear from them. I appreciate everyone's time.

Franw,

I had the same question! I look forward to learning what you find out.

franw~ I emailed DisneyFlorist back in early August and never heard from them. I ended up upgrading to concierge at AKL so they've helped arrange things like this for me but I would recommend calling Disney Florist if you don't hear from them in a few days. This is my pet peeve- don't offer an email contact address if you're not VERY up-to-date with it... Sorry to be negative:rolleyes:

Well, Disney Florist was very prompt in responding to my inquiry but basically told me they could arrange balloons but not Pal Mickeys. They told me I could buy or rent one there but that doesn't quite resolve my problem as I won't be there before my son's family gets there. If you can buy one in the park and have it delivered to your room I would think that this would also be doable. There is nothing quite as persistent as a grandma who is determined to put a smile on the faces of her grandbabies so I will forge on until I figure it out. I'll let you know what I find out.

Before I read your post, I had planned on calling my hotel directly to ask if the talking Mickey was something that they carried in the gift shop so that I could have it in the room when we arrived. I'll give that a shot and post what I find out

Yikes! I never imagined this would be so difficult. I called my resort (CSR) and asked if I could speak to someone in the giftshop. I was told that it was a restricted number and that they could transfer me to the catalogue center (which I'm not even sure carries it). I explained that I would be staying at their resort during my husband's birthday in October and wanted to arrange for a My Pal Mickey to be delivered to our room on our day of arrival. I was transferred to another person who told me that I would have to buy it when I arrived and then ask the front desk to deliver it. This is easier said then done and certainly doesn't help you, Franw.

I also aksed about having a cake delivered to our room. I was told to call back 48 hours before our arrival and ask for guest services. I might try asking them about the Mickey doll.

If someone is a concierge guest, this is not that hard to have done. The concierge staff has prior contact with their guests and can obtain credit card information to take care of this. The concierge software has the ability to track credit information and prior purchases and requests. That staff also makes their own room assignments and can have the item in the room before arrival.

But at most resorts and non-concierge rooms, this cannot be done prior to arrival. Room assignments are never guaranteed. Requests for room location, etc, can be noted on reservations and will occassionally be pre-blocked. But even in those cases, things can happen. A room could go down for a variety of reasons or a previous guest might not move out in time. So a room is not really assigned to anyone until they have checked in.

Therefore, items are NOT placed inside rooms before the guest arrives and checks in. Once a guest has checked into the resort, then items (flowers, wine, Pal Mickey, etc) could be delivered to the room. But remember, that could be hours later. Each resort usually has one "runner" each day to make deliveries to all rooms in that resort.

Even at concierge it can be tricky to time things just right, although I've read many trip reports where it was flawless. But b/c I told AKL Concierge I am arriving at noon, my room may not be ready and, therefore, I told them that if it would be more seamless, just do it while we're at dinner the first night. We'll come back to the room and all the treats I've arranged for my mom, dad and daughter will be waiting.
I think one way to make yourself feel better about things coming a little later is that checking in and seeing your room - especially in our case at AKL where we are hoping to have savanna views - everything is so exciting. To come to the room later and have another wonderful surprise will be very festive and will prolong the Magic;)
Good luck to you all~

Last xmas we had disney florist deliver an xmas tree to our room and requested that it be there and set up when we checked in (as it was a surprise for the kids). We were at POFQ. I asked when I checked in if it was there, but apparently PORS does all that stuff and they didn't know. Anyway, it was in the room when we got there (so they can do it sometimes), however, it was still in the box and not set up (oh well, at least some of the instructions were done).

So it can be done. I understand about room assignments, etc., but in our case, they must have assigned it beforehand. Maybe because it was xmas time.

I was able to find a service called Pixie Gifts that will arrange to have Pal Mickeys delivered to the hotel room. From what I understand the staff will deliver the gift to the room after you have checked in. I don't know how to post the website so that you can just click on it. Sorry.

Before you pay Pixigifts, check with the resort gift shop. When we were there last summer my sister bought me one from the Yacht Club lobby gift shop. You should call the resort's gift shop, purchase one over phone and they should take care of delivering it to room. After it is purchased at gift shop, they have this thing that they put it on to get it working and she told me each time you come to WDW to get it updated (cause there is always something new and they have to load it with that info) I can't wait to take it back to the park to hear what's happening! At home you can hear it tell jokes and play games. Right now he is just resting in a closet til we go again! LOL!

I read that the Pal Mickey's are so popular they raised the price to $60 I guess it's a seller's market :( Maybe I'll buy one when I get there, pay cash, keep the receipt and then try getting $20 or $30 bucks for it on ebay. I'll ship it with the receipt and original box so if it breaks (and it's within a month or so) maybe they'll fix it. At least the buyer would know it's relatively new.
Wouldn't try to sell it as new...I'm not dishonest. :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Hi Donnamerry,

I tried to do exactly what you suggested for my husband's birthday. I was told that I could not purchase it over the phone and that I'd have to purchase it at my resort's giftshop when I was there (10/16!!!!!). Since that would be difficult and I wanted it to be a surprise, I just went with pixie gifts.

See my ealier reply.

Just wondering if you couldn't just send it to your Resort front desk and have them give it to him there during the check in time. Have seen others talk about sending packages all the time to their resort. Not the same as in the room but an idea.
