I will be chaperoning a school trip and we will be staying at the Red Lion on Harbor. I've heard of people taking the trams from the Toy Story lot over to the resort? How does that work? Do you just walk into the lot and get on a shuttle? How do you enter the lot from Harbor? Where are the trams located in the lot? Does it really save any time over just walking down Harbor?

Thanks!!!

We've stayed at the Red Lion multiple times now and we have always opted to walk and the walk is not bad at all (as long as no one has mobility issues in your group).

You would walk south on Harbor (heading in the opposite direction of the parks) and the entrance is on the left, right across from Convention Way. If you look at Google earth, you will see a little roundabout towards the back/center of the lot. That's where the shuttles pick up. We stayed at Dolphin's Cove last year, and we just walked into the lot & used the shuttles.

Those pictures are very helpful, Mary Jo. Thank you! It looks like walking to the trams might save us a few steps (and maybe not!), but likely not enough to make the wait for the tram and drive over worth it.

When we stay in the convention center area we usually walk to the parks in the morning and then take the shuttle back at night. The Red Lion to the ticket gate at Disneyland is about 0.8 miles where the Red Lion to the Toy Story drop off is is about 0.3 miles.

You are better off just walking to the park. The shuttle bus takes a back route and the ride alone is over 5 minutes. Plus it e to wait to board a bus. You would get there fasted by just walking.

Actually, the difference is quite a bit for someone who has been or will be walking in the park all day. There never was a wait for a shuttle when we stayed near there and used the Toy Story shuttle. The only problem we ran into was that on a 7AM early entry day, the shuttle did not start to run until 7. We wanted to be thru security before 7 so we walked.

I would say taking the shuttle back to the Toy Story lot at the end of the day would be more useful than taking it in the morning. We might try that on our next trip here in a couple of weeks just to try it out.

I will agree with that. I think that is what I was trying to get at.

We've ended up walking to and from. It's not a bad walk, but if I wasn't with a huge group, I'd seriously consider hopping on one of the a Toy Story shuttles for the ride back!

Toy Story Lot uses shuttle buses versus a tram - not sure if that makes a difference in your decision. Either way (tram or bus) going to the Toy Story lot will definitely save you a few steps!

Yes, we definitely saw the busses on the walk back out of the park. They were tempting, but we ultimately decided to just walk rather than take a chance of having the group (40 students plus chaperones) get separated. Since I was wearing a Fitbit and competing in a challenge, I didn't mind too much. ;-) However, if it had just been my (and no challenge), I think we would have tried it at least once for the trip going back to the hotel.

It makes me happy knowing that when we stay as a family, we are either onsite or go to the Park Vue Inn. The Red Lion is okay, but the rooms at the Park Vue are a little nicer and definitely closer. For a school trip, we needed the indoor corridors that Red Lion provided.
