How do DVC rooms differ from other rooms?

I have heard that DVC rooms are slightly bigger, I've heard they are more run down etc. How do they differ? Do they have certain buildings that are for DVC members? I stayed at SSR in Congress Park 1br vill and I thought it was very nice, a little outdated television which I thought was odd, but it didn't really matter. I heard a lot of people on here complaining about quality of DVC rooms nowadays (which is good for me because I have nothing to compare it to so I'm happy with it as well as the food).

If you stayed in a 1 br villa at SSR, wouldn't you say it was larger than your average room at any of the regular WDW resorts? Wasn't it nice to have the kitchen if only for breakfast and snacks? The washer/dryer in the villa are great as well. As far as being run down, things do get used and experience normal wear and tear. If there's a spot on your carpet in your house, do you immediately rip up all the carpet and replace it; or do you put it in the budget to be replaced in the future? It's kind of the same thing with maintenance and upgrades to all the DVC villas and WDW resorts. I think there are also some issues with reduced staffing at all the resorts; many people here have experienced the same thing at their workplaces. It's hard to get the same amount of work done with less people.

DVC resorts do not hold any particular rooms for cash vs DVC Memebers, so yes, you stayed in a DVC room. As far as the TV, I'm sure it will be updated with the next rehab. The difference is cash resorts can rehab/replace TVs and furnishings whenever they wish, they simply pass the cost along in the form of higher rental rates. DVC resort rehabs are paid for by members. Part of our dues go into a reserve fund that pays for scheduled rehabs.

The real difference between DVC rooms and regular room is size and kitchens in larger villas, 1 BR and up. The studios do have a kitchenette but the only thing different than at a moderate resort is the extra sink and a toaster.

Regular WDW resort rooms:

Value resort rooms - 260 square feet
Moderate resort rooms - 314 sq. ft.
Deluxe resort rooms:
AKL and WL - 344
BC & YC - 381
BWI - 371
Contemporary Resort - 394
Polynesian Resort - 415
Grand Floridian - 440 Sq. ft.

The DVC square footages are as follows:

The square footage for each resort's two bedroom villa:

AKV Kidani - 1173
Jambo - 1075
Value - 945
BCV - 1083
BLT - 1152
BWV - 1073
OKW - 1395
SSR - 1075
VWL - 1080

Or consider a three bedroom villa at the Treehouse Villas at SSR. They sleep 9 and currently the point cost (on the 2009 and 2010 point charts) is the same as a 2 BR at SSR. The square footage is 1074.

The one bedroom villas have similar rankings as the 2 BRs where OKW is number 1, Kidani #2 and BLT #3.

AKV Kidani - 807
Jambo - 710
Value - 629
BCV - 726
BLT - 803
BWV - 712
OKW - 942
SSR - 714
VWL - 727

BLT falls behind everyone (except a Value Studio at Jambo) in comparing Studio villas. Once again OKW’s Studios are the largest.

AKV Kidani - 366
Jambo - 365
Value - 316
BCV - 365
BLT - 329
BWV - 359
OKW - 390
SSR - 344
VWL - 356

Grand Villa Comparisons - BCV and VWL are only the WDW DVC resorts that do not have Grand Villas. Jambo House and OKW are the largest with OKW having the end. However, a Jambo GV is all on one floor whereas OKW is on two floors.

AKV Kidani - 2201
Jambo - 2349
BLT - 2044
BWV - 2142
OKW - 2375
SSR - 2113

WDWnut, I never stayed in a standard room I feel that would be torture with two small children one of whom naps everyday for a few hours.

I was happy with our place and lovedddd the washer and dryer and having a fridge, I was just wondering if they differ because I just see people writing DVC rooms so I wasn't sure if they were seperate or in certain buildings. Thanks!

Yes, DVC rooms are in seperate wings from the other Deluxe rooms (or the top, larger overhanging floor of AKV Jambo)

I don't think that anyone has mentioned houskeeping. DVC does not include daily houskeeping. We get trash and towel replacement on the 4th day. You can pay extra for daily houskeeping.
