I've always wondered how Disney is able to print off your luggage tags and deliver them to your door the day before/of departure. At first I assumed it was from the info. I gave them for magical express, but on more than one occasion we haven't taken ME back to MCO and didn't give them our returning flight info. and yet we still got the envelope in the morning with our flight info. and were able to check our bags at the hotel before we left. Anyone know how they know/get the info.

I've never received luggage tags in the envelope left on my door. It only contained a paper explaining our ME pick up time and rules/procedures for luggage etc.

Same. I didn't think luggage tags could be printed until you checked in for the flight.

We just left on 7/7. Stayed at POFQ. We received a letter the day before that told our departure time to airport on the Magical Express.

When we went to drop off luggage they had printed our boarding passes for us. We had to check our luggage in and get it tagged when we arrived at MCO.

Do you book straight or through a TA? Someone either in your party or your TA gave them the information. They don't just have it automatically. Checking bags is because Disney partners with many airlines to be able to access their reservation system.

Huh, okay I was almost certain we always receive the luggage tags (although I think they print new/real ones off when we actually checked our luggage) before we actually went to check-in drop off luggage at the resort when we leave, but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

No, you are remembering correctly. :) They include a set of luggage tags when they dropped your Magical Express letter off at your resort room on your departure day. Once you go down to the airline check in desk they will print new ones.

We had boarding passes included with our ME letter, so they didn't have to print them at the airline check in desk. We flew SWA, if that matters.

OK, but I've never heard of them giving people luggage tags. I always thought those were printed when you check in your bags.
Both happens. Not everyone uses RAC. ME and RAC are two separate things, not tied or connected in any way
So they'll give you the ME info, along with luggage tags. That way, you can take your bags to the airport, using RAC isn't required. If you don't use it, you'll bring the bags on ME and you'll have tags if you want to use them.
But if you opt to you can take your bags to RAC who will the print out and put on luggage tags and take your bags

Yeah, someone had to. We don't give them our return flight info anymore because we know we aren't using ME to go back to MCO. We no longer get any return ME packages. So they don't access it automatically.

Now, we do use RAC. Signing up for ME isn't needed to use RAC

Interesting. I was under the assumption that if you take your bags to the airport yourself, they would just tag your bags when you check them in there.

ETA: I thought that bags were tagged wherever they were checked in, be it RAC or at the airport.

I did know they were separate, which is why I was a little surprised that luggage tags were included with the ME info.

I haven't used either service since 2012, so I see some things have changed. Nowadays, we either drive or fly into Sanford.

Ok, thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy. I was pretty sure we had boarding passes too. We always book direct, not through a TA, but always do our flights separately through the airline and there were 2 different occasions where we weren't using DME on the way back, did use on the way to the resort, but not back to MCO and I didn't enter any flight info. for the return flight, yet still got the envelope with the luggage tags, boarding passes. I just thought it was weird and wondered if maybe they somehow automatically get it from our names or something.

If we want to use RAC, but not ME, how do we do that?

You just have to bring your luggage down to the RAC desk at your resort at least 3 hours before your flight and before they close (I think they close at 1pm). They check you in just as they would if you were at the airport. An adult will have to show a photo ID in order to check in. They can print boarding passes for you at that desk. In fact, they can print boarding passes even if you are not checking in your luggage. :)

This is available to all guests staying at that resort. You don't need to use the Magical Express in order to use the RAC service. :)

Thanks, that's good to know.

What time do they open? Our flight is at 9:10 am, so we would be picked up by 6 am. I would like to do this as we did it on our cruise (not Disney) and we loved it.
If we can't I suppose we will just do curbside check-in at MCO.
