Dh and I are considering buying but not sure if we want a 150 pt contract. If we find a smaller contract how likely are we to be able to book a 2br in "non home" resorts at the 7m mark during Spring Break in March?

During Spring Break? Hmmm... it depends on which non-home resort. VWL, probably no chance. BWV and BCV -- not quite as bad as VWL, but you should be prepared to take what you can get, at least a few times you try this, including HH if necessary.

I'm not picky, but HH is too far away! I want to be in the World! I wish I could buy a lower point contract through Disney :(

Keep your eye out for the listings. Every so often there will be a lower-point contract for a WDW DVC property available. There was just recently one available for OKW (it's under contract already -- they sell quickly for precisely this reason).

Actually you can. This is what we did - we bought a 50 pt resale at VWL and then added on 30 points BWV from DVC. We thought this was just right but later bought another 200 at BWV resale. We now have more than we really need but we have the option of cutting back to 200, 80, 50, 30 or 0 if we want. We like that option.

Another option is get another member to an add-on at your desired home resort (whatever point number you want) and then buy it from them. Of course, you might have to wait for the points to become available but it is an option if you have a good friend or family member that owns DVC.

We did something similar to what the OP is hoping to do. However, we bought our original 150 point SSR contract from Disney. Still, the 7 month window has worked for us in our most recent holiday planning. We are staying at OKW March 12-17, 2006 in a 2-bedroom -- 150 points exactly.

I originally booked 4 nights at our home resort, SSR, 11 months out and then waited until the 7 month window opened up and flipped the ressie over to 5 nights at OKW. There was no problem at all.

FYI -- 5 nights in a 2 bedroom at OKW cost only 6 points more than 4 nights in a 2 bedroom at SSR.

It partly depends on your spring break, if it's Easter, it could be tough. But if you'll take SSR and OKW, your chances of success are still very high. Just book at the 11 month window for something if your home resorts is not VB or HH. Call at 9 am on the first day of the reservation window and call day by day for each day. If anything is not available that you need, get on the wait list at that second.

Our children's spring break has been consistently the third week in March no matter where Easter is. I am open to SSR and OKW and any other WDW property!

Our home resort is VWL and 2 years ago I switched to BCV 4 months out for a March 10 reservation. This was for a 2 bedroom unit. I would think that you could probably get OKW during this time. Twice before OKW was our only choice for short notice trips and we've always enjoyed our time there.
