How difficult is it to get tickets to a Moonlight Magic event?

I did Typhoon Lagoon last year and it seemed easy enough. This year, however, we want to do the event at HS for September 19th. We've never done a park Moonlight Magic event. Anything I should know? Do you have to call or can you reserve on-line? We do have a resort reservation.

Very difficult, booking online expect website crashes and spending 30 plus minutes trying over and over to hit the correct page for signing up.

It was for Epcot last year. We fought the system for 40 minutes, finally got a reservation for 3 people, a couple of hours later it was sold out. Needed to add 1 more person who decided to vacation with us, attempted doing it online several times per day until the link went dead. Then we started calling MS several times per day and never got the extra ticket. Later we were told to just show up with our extra person at the event check in which we did and we got the extra ticket.

In retrospect, the event for us wasn't worth attending. Maybe at the MK, but not at Epcot.

Is that typical when booking Moonlight Magic for a park?

I have to say I think it is :guilty: I did get a spot at Epcot for next month but looking back, I now consider it luck. I had many error messages to get through until I finally got a confirmation. Lots of people reported never being able to get beyond the error messages and it was sold out faster than you could say "Bob's your uncle".

When registration opens the system gets slammed, I think. Whether you are one of the "chosen" and get in, is luck. Shouldn't be that way

I would expect the feeding frenzy to get HS to be even worse than Epcot :headache:

I love that these events are being held, but it is a bummer that not everyone gets a chance to attend one. I’ve seen posts/vlogs/blogs where people have been to the same event more than once, but others don’t get to go at all. I just keep trying and I’m sure eventually I’ll get to go to one. (hoping they continue doing them)

Took me over an hour of crashes and frustration to register for the mk event this past February. It was horrible. I’m also TRYing to register for the studio event. I’m already stressed about it and it’s a month away. Good luck. Some will get in and others will not. Not fun!

Tips:

Don't even try to do this by phone. By the time you get someone on the line, the event will be full. Online is the only way.

Have the registration page open and ready. Although the link says it is active at 9 AM, some people reported being able to get in a few minutes earlier. So start trying before 9 AM.

Make sure you have your resort reservation number. Do a copy and paste if you have to, but make sure it is accurate. Submit all your information. If you get an error message, keep submitting. Be persistent. Sometimes this takes many, many tries.

If you are one of the "chosen", you will be able to register!

Just an FYI, people who called to complain about the error messages were locked out since by the time they got through on the phone, the event was full and there was nothing the CM could do.

it is very painful. Try getting in 15-5 minutes early. Have your reservation number handy.

I still think that these events are held so DVD can use them to convince people to buy direct. If they were held to benefit existing members, they would announce them a year in advance and fix the website or come up with some other way of registering.

You could be right, Bill.

I sometimes wonder, though, whether this is just a case of radically underestimating the popularity of these events. I'm not sure they imagined that folks would actually want to plan vacations around the dates.

You sound like me several years ago. I would give them the benefit thinking that they didn't know about the negative issues that effect the membership and "club". But after years of the same things happening and not being corrected, I finally realized that they know exactly what is happening and what will happen, they either don't care or their agenda is radically different than ours.

We added a day to our trip to hopefully get to the HS Moonlight Magic. When we added it, we had no idea it would be so difficult to get in to. We attended one at Typhoon Lagoon several summers ago and it was not an issue at all to get "tickets" for, but the more I read about the past couple of events, the less I expect to actually get in. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but won't let it ruin my 10 night retirement trip!

Pretty difficult. I got in to Typhoon Lagoon last year too---in July I think it was? But the big park events sell out in like an hour or two after multiple systems crashes/glitzches. There was also some fraud with I believe the December 2017 events. You were supposed to be staying on property, but the system was allowing Members with no active reservations get through and secure tickets for the Moonlight events. I just got an email this afternoon for Annual Passholders for three VIP AP events coming up (Aug, Sept and late Oct).....I get home from work....ALL SOLD OUT. I'm kinda over it.

I bet on the latter. They could easily increase the number of people allowed to attend those event, making the parks more crowded. But this wouldn't create the same positive buzz of livebloggers commenting how lovely the event is (now even with a free dinner!). People will read and watch all those positive comments and just ignore the few comments of people that couldn't book them (they'll probably wrongly assume they just didn't plan well enough). They do not care about making all of us happy, they care about having a powerful marketing tool. Booking the parks for more nights and fixing the website cost money, why spend them when the events work so well already (from their point of view)?
I'll try to book the DHS event in a few days, keeping my fingers crossed already and getting prepared for disappointment.

I have done 3 events and never had any problems booking. Pretty painless, but I was on ready to go right away.
