How did your toddlers react to the following attractions: Honey, I shrunk the Audience, Tough to be a bug, The great movie ride, backlot tour, haunted mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, ellen's energy adventure, maelstrom? I'm taking my 2 year old on these and I just wanted an idea of how most kids feel on the rides. I know it depends on the child, but let me know anyway. Thanks.

I took mine for her 2nd birthday and she absolutely LOVED all of the above! I can't remember if we took her on the Maelstrom though. She is usually a very loud, active child, but she sat perfectly still in every show and ride and just stared and pointed at everything - even kept her 3D glasses on during the shows. It was nothing short of a miracle! Months later, whenever we are in line for anything she asks, "Show? Ride? Mickey Mouse?" Don't miss Philharmagic - it has most of the characters and is very entertaining for toddlers!

Honey- OK
Tough- NO!
GMR- Scary in parts. Gunshots
Backlot- OK
Pirates- OK
Ellen- Too long
Maelstrom- OK

A lot depends on the kids. My older DD won't do any of those rides, and she's 7, but my 4 year old has been doing them since she started going. My younger DD is the crazy rider, while the older is happy with Dumbo. Start slow and see how she reacts, then you'll know how to proceed. Kids are so different when it comes to the attractions.

Mine liked all of them except Honey (didn't like the mice) and TTBAB (hated it all, won't even consider doing it again now that he's 13!).

I took a friend's daughter on TTBAB at age 8 or 9 and she was scared stiff. It all depends on the child, but if dark, loud, with screaming bugs and screaming guests isn't your child's cup of tea, you may want to pass.

We went in Nov w/our DDs ages 4 and almost 2. Heres how they were:

Honey, I shrunk the Audience - didnt go to it
Tough to be a bug - didnt go to it
The great movie ride - both were fine. No issues w/any part of it
backlot tour - didnt go to it
haunted mansion - DD4 had to go on this first. it was her favorite ride. DD2 held on to me. she was ok, she didn't like 2 parts...1 where your doom buggy goes backwards down a hill and 2 where the ghost pops up and screams
Pirates of the Caribbean - both loved this ride - rode it multiple times
ellen's energy adventure - didnt go on it (i dont like this one)
maelstrom - didnt take 2yo but 4yo loved it.

Please don't take your toddler into ITTBAB.

It's a pet hate of mine. People take their under 2's in (maybe 2 and up would be OK though), CM's warn them that they won't like it, they ignore them, halfway through the show it is disrupted by screaming, hysterically crying children, and the theatre lights up because people are having to exit early via the doors at the left hand side.

If you have to ask if you think they'll be OK, don't take them in!!!

The rest should be OK though. Have you considered buying a light up toy then can use if they get scared? :teeth:

Oh I forgot - if you're doing Backlot Tour, warn your LO in advance and sit on the right hand side. Then they shouldn't get scared!

Gotta agree with flortlebap on this one. It's pretty stinkin' scary for a tot. Every time we go in SimonV and I take bets on how soon and how many (as in, how soon with the children start crying and how many will have to leave).

Honey- he kept his eyes closed at all times, while sitting on my lap and holding his ears.
Tough- was Terrified, he try to get behind me
GMR- the shooting was a little loud but did OK afterwards
Backlot- did fine, but was unsure what to expected
Pirates- loved it
Ellen- loved it
Maelstrom- did fine
HM-was scared to death the first time, but was a better by the 3rd time.
This past Jan. he did fine with it.

We started these rides at age 2 and now he is 4. We haven't tried Honey, or tough again since the age of 2.

He has started to like Haunted Mansion, we talk him through it to understand it better.

My kids are 6 and 8 now. They have been to WDW at different ages. We have never had a problem with them getting frightened, even when they were toddlers. I really thought Tough to be a bug would be the one to cause a scare, but nope. I can see where it would frighten some children tho.

DD was 2.5 our last trip

Haha, we took bets too! And it's pretty scary for some adults... particularly if you're claustrophobic. Getting surrounded by smoke was the worst part even for me. But it was worth it to watch my MIL jump out of her seat when she got poked in the back :lmao:

My 1 year old loved it! :confused3
He is definitely on the super-adventurous side, though.
I can't imagine him being scared on anything.
Looks like he will be 35 inches by October (he's a half inch away!) and I am almost positive he will LOVE Barnstormer. I think a lot of it depends on the child. Lots of people told me he would be afraid of the crowds and characters, which I knew was hogwash for MY particular child (I was right).
Just wanted to add that not everyone taking a baby into ITTBAB or similar attractions is irresponsible and insensitive! :grouphug: My child will be laughing, not screaming! :Pinkbounc

We did not take our 2 year old on any 3d shows just because she will not keep the glasses on her face. When we go in a month though we are going to try to take her on Philar Magic.

The Haunted Mansion actually put her to sleep and POC scared her at first but she has gotten use to it. To prepare for this trip I have the songs from the rides and attractions and she listens to them and likes them all so much. I also go to Disney's website and show her the clips of the rides.

Lately she has had some new fears that she has never had before so we will see how things go on this trip. I would say just try them out, you'll never really know unless you try.

I do know that the Tommorrow Land Transit Authority, we call it the people mover, always puts her to sleep, in case you need any ideas for that. Have fun.

Well you obviously know your kid best!! I guess I'm just worried that EVERY child panics on the attraction, it seemed to me like so many do!

I must admit I did wonder about my own DD1. To be honest I don't think she'd get scared either because she's too young to understand. She'd probably just like the extra stimulation!

But still I'm not taking the risk. Maybe next trip :goodvibes
