How did you pick your resale company?

I'm not ready to pull the trigger on resale just yet - or should I say DH isn't ready yet... :headache: but I have a few questions for those who bought DVC resale.

How did you pick the resale company you went with? Just from them having a contract you wanted?

We're looking for something specific: CCV, September UY and I only want like 100 pts or less.

I feel like I might have signed up for all the "listing emails" and what not, but if you find a contract through one company, only that one company can sell it to you right? It's not like the housing market where your realtor can sell a house that is listed with another firm..right?

I told DH that since we're looking so specifically that it could take a while to (1.) find the contract and (2.) then close on it since I've been hearing it can take 3-4 months for the whole process and a few listings I've seen state that they can't close until after 10/1 - which I'm assuming is b/c they have a reservation on the books?

and just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly....we have 250 pts direct with Disney @ CCV - a 200 pt contract and a 50 pts contract. If we bought resale @ CCV, I can add my current direct 250 pts to whatever amount of resale pts I buy and all of those can be used to book a room @ CCV at 11months or somewhere else at 7 months (except for the Riviera which I cannot use resale points for)...

Thanks all! :lovestruc

Cheapest one that is reputable.

I had roughly 11 or 12 I search with really 7 primary companies. I don't even have the list anymore but its on here somewhere and I think I posted my list at one point of who I searched.

There are a couple generic timeshare sales companies that you can check but I would be more cautious dealing with them and want a complete steal to do business with them as with DVC I would want someone who specializes in it.

I probably have a similar list! :)

and just to clarify, I CAN bank my resale points into RCI ( I thought I read somewhere I can't but then I read I can..) and I can't use those points for Riviera or any other "not yet built" Disney DVC resort...right?

All correct, although I wouldn’t call it banking into RCI, more so transferring to RCI. I know it may be semantics, but banking has a specific meaning in DVC, just to avoid confusion with that. Once there they have a different set of expiration guidelines. But also no Disney Cruise Line or Disney Collection, although generally accepted as not a good exchange value on points.

Yes, sorry - I should not have used the word "banking" - so I can move the points into RCI - great to know...

and we don't cruise so I don't have to worry about that....

and I cannot use resale points for any resorts other than the original 14, right? So can't be used if they ever build the resort next to WL, right?

Yes, all points no matter how purchased can be used to trade into RCI. (probably better to rent out an use the money to broaden the type of places available though). And correct that any resale at the original 14 could only be used at the original 14 and can't be used at Riviera. We can assume that will hold true for resorts going forward but until they are announced it's not exactly correct to state that but probably about as close to 100% as one can get without knowing yet.

Thanks for your clarification!

You can only use the points together if they are titled exactly the same AND have the same UY. If either of those are different, it will give you a new membership number, which is like booking as a different person.

We would only be looking at the same UY so that part is not an issue but how hard is it to have the title the same name?

Can we look at our current contracts and just give them those names too?

Does it matter if we've moved since getting our direct contracts??

If your previous buys were you and your ex or your trust or whatever, you'll need to figure that out to match it up. It needs to have all the same names, no new people, no missing people. This is all public information, and should be in your paperwork.

There have been stories here to the specificity of middle initials.

ok - previous buys were me and DH and it will still be us on the future buys (celebrating 28 y"ears" this October!!)

I'll make sure to make note of our names on the original documents as DH and I both have 4 names (2 middle names)...and mine doesn't even include my maiden name! HA!

I looked at contract first. I have worked with several of the resale companies and have purchased 5 different resale packages. I have not encountered any issues other than sellers being slow to complete the paperwork.

We've used dvcresalemarket ************* fidelity and dvcsales. Had nothing to do with the companies but the contract we were looking for.

thank you! and I guess its just a matter of me checking each website daily? I have signed up for email/text alerts but it seems like those alerts only come out once/twice a week. I guess its also possible that the ideal contract could come out but if I rely only on the email alerts that I could miss it and it could be sold in a few days or do contracts usually take longer than a few days to be sold?

If there's something very specific then you want to be checking the websites daily.

Yes, I'm assuming that a small (100pt or less) contract at CCV with a Sept UY will be tricky to find - from what I hear, Sept is not the most common UY...
Yes, September will make it a bit tricky.
