How did you make your decision...financially or emotionally?

The initial purchase was emotional, but where to purchase was more financial!
Our first stay at DVC was a split stay at OKW and BWV. Needless to say, we loved it! Before that it was always the moderates, which we really liked! But after that stay, we new we wanted in!
Our decision for SSR was more financial since we didn't have the cash just laying about!:rotfl: We got in on the friends and family deal and haven't regretted it so far. Our first stay at SSR was this past summer and if that is the only place we could stay, that would be fine! The resort is beautiful! We haven't had a problem getting other resorts as of yet, but that time may come.

Financially- We had payed off a home improvement loan which freed up the money to be able to afford DVC. Now that I have recently paid off my truck, I am paying more and more on the loan and it will be paid off much sooner than we expected. After its paid off we may look at adding on a few more points.

Emotionally- Our family always has the most fun at Disney World. We laugh and smile almost non-stop. We just got back from our first DVC stay last month at OKW and we were thrilled with our decision. We are looking forward to May when we go back for DW, Seaworld, and Aquatica. We are also looking forward to many more years of Orlando/Disney World Vacations!!!

For us it was financial (plus seeing a 1BR at BWV). We were staying at the Swan, paying a couple hundred a night for a so so room. We stay at deluxe resorts and were getting tired of the ever increasing room charges but didn't want to move down to a moderate or go off site, when we go on vacation we want to relax and splurg a bit. While walking around the Boardwalk we peaked into the DVC sales center and someone asked if we would like to hear the pitch, a bit over two hours later we walked out owners. Once you get over the sticker shock of the initial purchase you don't know why you didn't do it earlier.

One big benefit that we didn't think about when we purchased is that it's allowed us to invite friends and famliy to join us on visits to the resort that we couldn't have done otherwise. Last October we had two other couples with us to share a GV at BVW, web site showed a rack rate for our stay would have been over $7,000. In May we're going with some family to a 2BR at OKW which web site says $3,500 for the stay. Without DVC no way would we be able to afford to do this.

Ours was both. Emotionally we love Disney and keep going back at least a couple of times a year. I don't see that changing very soon so financially it made perfect sense to buy into DVC. We were staying Deluxe often and the hotel bill alone was killing us as often as we were going. We are taking our first trip home in May and I am excited to have my vacations prepaid in the future. I really don't look at it as savings just prepayment of our accomodations. It got to be too much worrying about the savings end (although I know we are saving in the long run).

We talked and crunched the numbers and really discussed it for a whole year when we were considering buying into SSR. NOTHING AGAINST SSR IT IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE! But somehow it just never seemed right for us and we just couldn't commit, then we found out about resales and decided on BWV and bought within a month. We don't regret it at all - just the time we wasted when we should have bought earlier. For us it was alot of money and alot of hesitating until we found 'our' place then the emotions seemed to make the numbers work.

Good Luck to you.
