How did you celebrate your daughter's/son's 18th Birthday

Well my parents took me out to dinner at my favorite place. There really wasnt much different about my 18th birthday party... except the joke bills my father gave me for the previous years of my life. I kinda liked that. He averaged out what my life has pretty much cost him with clothing and food and what not. Of course he is a math geek and does that stuff for fun.

My grandfather got me a ton of scratch tickets... other than that it was pretty much that same as any other birthday.

I don't have kids but can respond as to what my mama did. When I turned 16 I didn't want a birthday party and we were to broke to throw one anyways. She threw me a big suprise party for my 18th. All my friends from forever were there with pizzas and subs and my fav icecream cake. Then she gave me some money after the party and told me she had a room reserved to play at the bowling alley (very small town) for just my friends and I. I thought it was a great night and something I always remebered. It might depend on your child if he/she wants anything special.

Well my 18th birthday was in March and I graudated high school in May so we went to Disneyworld in June as a birthday/graduation trip :D The actual day of my 18th b-day we didn't do anything flashy. My mom made my favorite meal and we had some friends over.

My 18th birthday would have been just another regular day except that it was also my Fathers 50th birthday so we had a party for him at the house and I invited a few of my friends too(which I probably would have whether it was my birthday or not). I did get my name on the cake though.

Our Son turned 18 while we were in ORlando. Took him to the Nascar Cafe for dinner. He got $$$ too. It was a great 2 week trip :) WE did WDW too while there.
DD turns 18 next year. I would love to be in WDW for her 18th birthday!!

My son's 18th birthday was last Saturday. On Friday, his dad and I took him to a VERY nice restaurant for dinner. It is a place we use for special occasions (a/k/a $$).

On Saturday night he took (on us, of course) 10 of his friends to Chuck E Cheese for pizza. They had fun - just like when they were 5 years old!!! LOL

On Sunday, we took his grandmother and aunt and uncle out for lunch, so we could celebrate with them.

The weekend cost me a small fortune (including the digital camera we gave him for his birthday), but it was fun.

Next year he'll be at college on his birthday.

Lucky you! I'm 61 and I've never been married! What's it like? And also, what's it like to have a son? I wish I had one!

my parents took me and about 10 friends to olive garden...my brother and uncle came also....we had a room reserved and i remember getting a pair of earrings and a ring from my family

Well I turned 18 last month. I had gotten back really early that morning from an NHS trip to St. Louis, so we kept everything really low key. Had dinner (my choice) that mom had made, cake and presents. Grammy and Grampa were here. Besides that I slept and got caught up on school work (missed 2 days of school for the trip). That weekend we had a little get together with my aunt, uncle, cousins, and other grampa. Dad also took me out to dinner that weekend (parents divorced), and he gave me a decent amount of money, a new cd, and sent half a dozen pink roses to me on my actual b-day (he was on a business trip). Aside from dad's money, no big gifts or anything like that. I guess the trip sort of could be considered part of my gifts. Some of my friends have had big parties, but I didn't want that. My friends did surprise me with a giant Mrs. Fields cookie cake while we were in St. Louis. So we had a little party in the hotel room one night. That's really about it though.
I was given the option of having a party with my friends. I really didn't want one though.

When I turned 18, we had a party at Chuck E Cheese =)

Really.

We had a blast reliving our childhood...

Looking back, that seems really immature, but we really weren't - just liked to have a good time... =)

My parents took me to a very nice restaurant (Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas) and gave me a set of pearls and my grandmother's diamond earrings. I had a party with my friends the next week.

The day I turned 18 I was in Italy on tour with the concert band I played in (I was actually in Venice on my 18th birthday - lucky me!!) When I returned I had a party at our local sports centre bar (a lot of my friends had a party there for their 18th) for lots of my school friends and my family. However I was actually really ill the days after we returned from the tour and spent my party sat in corner of the room drinking orange juice and not daring to even move!!. All my friends did this for their 18th birthday. Although we were 18 which is the legal age to drink alcohol here we were really good kids and just wanted to dance rather than drink so there were no problems.

My aunt took her son to Vegas. My mom took my brother on a cruise. I just got clothes...hmmmm...guess I turned 18 too soon! My SIL did Chuck E Cheese for her 20th birthday--her last "child" antic prior to turning 21. I think WDW trips are great too!

My parents sent me to Ireland to stay at a castle and foxhunt (on horses) every day for 2 weeks. There is absolutely no way I can top that for my two kids so I'm not even going to attempt it...

DD celebrated her 18th in September.....a couple of weeks after moving in to her dorm for freshman year of college! I had a huge happy birthday chocolate cheesecake sent to her from the campus bakery because her birthday was during the week and she had a Lab from 6-9 that evening :(. Then on the weekend following we went over and took her, her roomate, one more new friend and two old friends, out to a nice dinner. Gave her gifts then...a Beta fish and clothes and a necklace.

I really don't remember what I did when I was 18, it was low key I'm sure or I would remember it. wouldn't I? sigh. age. my eldest is 2 so I've got a ways to go before that comes up.

I have to add that when I read the title to the post the first thought that hit me was the family ties episode when Alex turned 18 and wanted to go to a bar in some other state where the drinking age was 18 with his buddies. his mom, elise, forbade it and he went anyway, thinking he was 18 so what could she do. she showed up at the bar. omg, it was so funny. so so so funny.

so I don't know what I did for my 18th, but I do know exactly where Alex P. Keaton was for his!

When I turned 18 my friends and I all went out see Rocky Horrow at midnight and then to a bar for some drinks (actually it was the same thing we did for my "sweet 16" party LOL....) I can't remember my parents doing anything special for those birthday...just presents and a cake and then I was off with my friends.
