Hi all! I'm a DVC member and may have gone a bit overboard in terms of what we can actually use. Before we decide to sell some of these contracts, can someone tell me the best way to rent their points? Do you go through friends and family that you know? The rental forum on this disboards? Any of the other rental sites like David's?

What are the pros and cons of each and what are some of the bigger issues you all have run into? Also, is it harder or easier to rent your points when you have confirmed dates vs when you haven't yet made a reservation? Thanks so much for all the insights!

I promised my wife I would stop buying these contracts until we figure this out first :)

The rental places add $8 to what you are asking ... so if you want $20 / point they are going to list at $28 which may place your listing over AP or discount rates.

Try renting here or if you want to use a service book low point walk to park rooms like BW / BC or BLT

Take a look at the rent board here and you'll get an idea of what it's like to rent. Lots of people looking to book when it's too close to find anything. The owners tend to either book far out with the 11 month window or lower the prices to get rid of the points faster. If you want to make a reservation and rent out the reservation, the board rules are much more strict.

You can use a third party broker, which makes it a little less work for you. I think @VGCgroupie rented out some confirmed reservations through a broker recently.

Thank you all for the response!

@cruisehopeful - what are the board rules more strict for renting a reservation vs just renting your points without a reservation?

@VGCgroupie - what does it mean that DVC rental store is the board sponsor? Does that mean that if I pay to create a rental thread in the rental forum it automatically also goes up in DVC rental store as well?

No it just means they sponsor the website as an advertiser to help keep it running. You'd have to ask the admins that run the rental thread all the aspects of the fees etc. When I used dvcrentalstore to rent it was completely separate from this boards rental threads.

Here is the Rental threads the ones posted to the top go over the rules. https://www.disboards.com/forums/dvc-rent-transfer.29/

I’ve rented points through dvcrentalstore.com and had great experience working with them. The original renters had to cancel and instead of me being stuck, they got someone to rent the confirmed reservation and paid me an extra $50 to change the names of the guests. However, I’ll peruse through the active requests rather than booking a reservation to rent a confirmed reservation. (I’m not a fan of all the confirmed reservations available to rent.)

With a confirmed reservation, you can set your price. I tried browsing through the active, but the rate they want to pay me was so low I would not even consider that option. Getting paid $16 a point when you pay taxes on the money makes it not worth renting.

This board does not allow confirmed reservations to be rented here.

You probably want to set your expectations when working with a broker.

They do make the process easier and take away some of the risk. But if you rent out your points via a broker then expect to receive about $14 to $16 per point.

Yes, you will make more by renting out your points directly yourself, but it is more work and more risk. It's always a trade-off (time vs. money).

Getting $14/pp is better than letting those points expire and you get nothing. That should, at least, cover the annual dues.

Am I misreading the Platinum plan? I thought it did allow confirmed reservations?

I use confirmed for years with a broker and always get $20 - why would I settle for less?

Markets change.

If DVCRS is now only charging $15-$18/pp to rent Confirmed Reservations, then you’re not getting $20/pp.

When you rent a confirmed reservation, you set your minimum price- they added eight dollars to it . All of mine had sold with my minimum price at 20.
