How did you announce your pregnancy?

Fun stories!!

For our first, it was Christmas so for Christmas gifts, I gave all the grandparents little t'shirts that said "If you think I'm cute, you should see my Grandma/pa".....MIL/FIL were clueless for a good 5 minutes....then they flipped :bounce:

For my next pg, we knew it was multiples, but didn't know the sexes, so we sent pink and blue carnations delivered with a card that said "Guess what??"

My third pg we just told everyone when I hit 12 weeks - all the little guys above were preemies and are my 's, so we dispensed with the fan fare.....

And for my last guy, who took forever to make, I was in bed, in the hospital by 13 weeks. It wasn't looking promising, so we didn't tell anyone except my sister (IL's are snow birds and only see mother on holidays) that I was pg. On Easter Sunday, when I was 20 weeks, DH and DS went to my sister's house where the whole family, including my IL's, were. DH and DS walk in and everyone is like  - where's your wife?? DH: "Somewhere on Rt. 17 - she knit picked one too many times and I stopped the car and told her to get out."

Everyone was   . My sister said the silence in the house was horrible. DS finally relents and hands IL's and mother Easter eggs with an Easter Peep inside with a note: "There's a new chicklet on the way".... everyone was happy until they found out how far along I was - then they were  at keeping them out of the loop so long..... .....they got over it.......

With my parents, we just called them on the phone. With DMIL and DFIL, we did something a little different. We had seen books titled "Why I love Grandpa" and "Why I love Grandma" at Barnes&Noble. We bought those books and put them in identical blue bags with identical blue/white tissue paper. Then we conspired with DSIL (who already knew) to get her and her DH over to DMIL's house on a Saturday night. We all sat down at the table out on the porch while DH handed the bags to DMIL and DFIL. DFIL dug right in, while DMIL held back, unsure of what might be in the bag. But as soon as he pulled out the book, she started digging through hers to see what was in it and started crying when she read the title. DFIL looked at us like, "Oh no...oh yes?". DH and I just laughed. We told them then we were 12 wks pregnant and DMIL grabbed her cellphone to start calling all her friends. The funny thing was that the first person she called was a friend who also knows DSIL who'd known for three days that we were pregnant.

We found out I was pregnant right before Christmas. I was about 7 weeks along. My family had a christmas party the day after I found out, but DH couldn't attend (he had to play music for a Christmas play) so I couldn't say anything about the pregnancy!

Finally, Christmas eve, we gave our parents a baby photo album and in the front picture frame I found a cute baby clipart and added "Baby ______, Expected Date of Arrival July 31, 2003". We did the same thing w/ picture frames for our grandparents and my SIL. :)

It was my DH's birthday and my mom and brother and my inlaw's and SIL were over to celebrate. We told them how we did not think we would be having Thanksgiving dinner at our house and they all moaned and groaned because someone else would have to cook. They asked why and we said because we will probably be at St. Mary Hospital. Took them a few seconds, but once it kicked in they were thrilled.

Good thread!
We told my dad on his birthday. We gave him a birthday cake that said Happy Birthday Grandpa on it. It took a while for him to get it, but my mom was jumping up and down almost as soon as she saw it. All heck broke loose after that. My mom was fighting cancer and this really brought her up.
With DMIL and DSIL we told DH's little sis that we couldn't take her on vacation that summer like we had promised, but the trade off was that she was going to be an aunt. Super happy!!!!

With DS1, we called MIL fairly quickly. Hubby asked his mom "what would you like the baby to call you?" She cried, as this was her first and long hoped for grandchild.

We went to my grandnephew's b'day a few weeks later...his card was from Aunt, Uncle and Baby ?. I called my mom first, because I know my sister would be calling the whole world before I even was five minutes from Niece's house (I was right. I got home an hour later and had 8 messages from the rest of the family!)

With DS2, I was extremely high risk and was told I had a 40% likelihood of miscarrying. We held our breath and hit 12 weeks the week before Christmas. My siblings were all betting that I'd be the next pregnant (two sisters were trying to get PG at the time). I called one sister's house, where everyone was and asked to be put on the speaker phone while they were eating their desserts on Christmas night. I asked, "so how much money do I get?" and my younger sister got it right away! There was a lot of whooping and hollering. Then a month before I had DS2, both sisters became PG!

Younger sister called to sing "Happy Birthday to you and happy baby to us" when they told me. It's funny, because 5 years earlier that was how they told me they were engaged!

Great stories everyone. Keep them coming. :sunny:

Well I was about 3 months or so along with my first before we announced it, but I just rang my Mum & said "Hello Grandma" & she said "Really"?

Then she of course told my Dad & the rest of the family.

With my second we announced it almost as soon as I knew & I don't exactly remember how we did that.............possibly in a similar way.

These are such wonderful stories and brings back such pleasant memories.

For my daughter we brought a pink and blue balloon to each of the parents when I was 6 weeks pregnant.

My sister wanted to be the first one told the next time I was pregnant so when I was pregnant with my son I made a t-shirt for my dd that said "I'm going to be a big sister". I put her in the shirt, took her picture and framed it.

We had the entire family over for my birthday (I was 12 weeks along) and made sure my sister was sitting right next to me. I started opening up my presents. My dd gave me her gift (the frame) and I opened it acting all surprised. My sister wanted to see what I was getting crazy about and I showed her the picture. She started getting all excited. Everyone ran over to see what it was and it was total chaos for a couple of minutes.

I found out I was PG with DD the day before we left for WDW! I was so upset not to be able to ride the big rides and was nervous DH would be mad too! He was thrilled, and since you couldn't tell, he would ride each ride and then decide if I could do it. I did Test Track, Splash Mtn., the Star Wars ride (?), Safari. Plus, he got to use my FP!!

We told my mom on her birthday, I can't remember how I told my dad.

With DS, we arranged to see my family all in the same weekend, and we said "Does Grace look any different to you?" They hadn't a clue and then we said "She's going to be a big sister!"

I love all your stories. It's such a special announcement. Love your ideas.

For my first child, my husband's company was planning a golf trip.
I found a fortune cookie with a large entry so I could put in my own message.

We went out to a Chinese Restaurant and I excused myself at the end of dinner and gave the cookie to our waiter.

It said:

When we go golfing in August you'll see
A twosome is not what we'll be
For you, me and baby make three.

This sweet little baby is now 26 years old. That's the only time I've seen my DH speechless.;)

For the next two times I was pregnant - he told me - Ha - took the tests and left for work. How things change.:wave2:
