Hello! My husband and I went to DL last weekend and went on the newly opened Space Mountain. It was SO different from what we're used to at WDW. I'm curious - before it was re-opened, was it similar to the one at WDW? Or has it always been so different??

Thanks!!

The WDW Space Mtn is similar to the DL Matterhorn.

The DL Space Mtn has a new effects. There were no changes to the layout of the track which has always been different then WDW.

The track layout is the same, but they've somehow made the ride run a lot smoother than before.

It's smoother because it's a new track. They rebuilt it from the ground up. The old track was 26 years old.

The "spinning" effect as you enter the last tunnel prior to entering the large room where the ride really starts moving, is really much, much better than it was before. You actually feel like you are spinning!

The planet inside the ride actually looks like a planet and the "chocolate chip cookie" space object that were projected on the dome have been replaced with much more realistic items.

The trains themselves are new and have a much better sound system in them.

Those are a few of the things....

I can say the music is very loud!!!
They aslo have a special car for loading the wheelcahirs also. It is really cool to watch it.

Also you can't 'see' the ride from the line anymore. That might have changed it before. But as a kid I liked watching the cars go by from the line..

It is also a side by side. Not front and back like WDW.

I personally like it much better now. I do agree at WDW it is more like the MAtterhorn. (Rough!)

Also the fast pass line is worth it. But you still have a hike! You also don't enter from the escalator anymore. You go up a ramp between the pizz place and Honey I shrunk the Audience. (If that is even the show anymore. I sometimes still call it Captin EO)

Speaking of which, I was reading a new show coming up for SM. Opening Gradnight, nighttime riders are going to experience Rock it Mountain. It's at this site. It sounds to me like it's only going to happen that one night and not a permanent thing.

Rock-IT Mountain will be premering during grad nights and will be the night time version of Space Mtn from then on.

Thanks so much for all of the responses!

My husband and I were expecting it to be just like WDW and boy were we shocked! It seemed much smoother, and then of course there's the music and the lighting effects inside which really made me feel like I was among the stars. We thought it was awesome!

Am I the only one who misses the chocolate chip cookie planet??? :sad2:
