This was posted under another thread & since it was the first time I ever heard it I was wondering if anyone else knew this. Since many people may not read the original thread I figured I would post a new one...

My husband is a carpenter in the Bay Area and has several of his partners working right now on the Cruise Terminal that Disney bought in San Francisco. I have this hunch that there will be a repositioning cruise to bring one of the older ships over to this side and bring the new one to Florida.

DCL bought a cruise terminal in San Fran????? :confused3

Now that would be the another perfect repo cruise for us

We could combine our two favorite things - DCL & visiting family in the bay area. :teeth:

Any idea -- exactly where this terminal is supposed to be? My brother lives in Mill Valley - and teaches in SF .... if I could get more detailed info - I could convice him to check it out.

Why San Fransico? I would think it would be at Los Angeles. Isn't LA closer to Disneyland than SF? I hope it is true though, that means a new ship alot sooner than we originally thought. Which ship do you think they'll send over there, the Magic or the Wonder?

The DCL sales manager that I spoke with (at a travel show) said the 3rd ship is going to Florida but the Magic & Wonder are also staying in Florida. The 4th shiip will eventually be in Calif. (in 5+ years) but he didn't say WHERE in Calif. (I assumed LA because of its proximity to DLR).

But as of right now no ships are actually being built; contract hasn't even been signed yet. So even the 3rd ship won't be happening for 2+ years.

Hmmm. It would have to be project #6 here - SF Port. Pier 30-32 is the only one being developed for cruise ships. If I recall correctly, it's one of the larger port buildings near the SBC ballpark.

Hey, my DH just had an idea. Maybe until they get the fourth ship they are going to do 14 day repo cruises back and forth between Fl & Cal. That would be pretty cool. They would be pretty popular I imagine.

Either way I hope there will be one in Calf. so that way there could be more choices for everyone who love Disney Cruises!!!!!!! :earseek:

This is pasted from another thread, from about a month ago:

A good friend of mine, her husband is the chief batalion (sp?) of the port of Long Beach - This is what he believes is going to happen (he is charge of inspecting Port of Long Beach - ie - Cruise ship area)

He believes that DCL will buy out the Queen Mary (Disney use to at one point own it, were thinking about putting a water park there, abandoned those plans, then abandoned the Queen Mary) The Queen Mary is really not a financial success story -then or now - he believes it will buy them out - possibly move it or get rid of it (sell it) and use that area as the new port for DCL (great location, big parking lot, some stores, etc) He believes it will happen sooner than the 5-7 year theory -

Don't kill the messenger - Just passing on what I heard from a reliable source - Again, these are his theories, he knows nothing for fact - But it is his job over there, so he talks to a lot of people in the know at the port -

Karen

I like this rumor better than the No Cal rumor.

"Go Right ot the Source and ask the horse...."

(With Apologies to Mr. Ed).

I noticed there was a phone number and Contact along each of the SF Port projects.

Never being shy, I called and the Project manager himself answered.

Hew was very nice.

I asked if it were true that the Pier 30-32 project were owned by or being prepared for Disney Cruise Lines.

He said "That's the first I've ever heard that."

That is a possibility .. they haven't posted 2007 itineraries yet, so we can always hope that summer 2007 would see the Magic or Wonder in CA for 12 weeks with two 2-week repo cruises .. and then the ship remaining in FL could do a combination of itineraries (3 nite Bahamas, 4 night Bahamas, 7 night Western Caribbean, 7 night Eastern Caribbean, start all over again).

That's what I figured. Honestly, the SF Ports have such terrible traffic and parking issues I can't imagine any cruise line wanting to invest the kind of money needed to make fix that. The land is scarce and $$$ :earseek:

I like your style Jim. Most times the best way to find out something is to pick up a phone. I am not surprised about SF, if DCL West were based out of a US port that would make cruising to Hawaii a little difficult unless the ship was US registered.

On February 2, 2005, it was announced that Disney has a third ship under construction.
Not exactly.

DCL "admitted" (you can call it an announcement) that they have the plans drawn up and that they are waiting for a favorable exchange rate.

At no time did they say a contract was signed or that construction had actually begun.

The land is scarce and $$$
That's why they are waiting for the euro exchange rate to become more favorable - so they can spend the savings on a new port in the high rent district :rolleyes1

Okay.

When the Magic arrived in LA there were a lot of reporters and the DCL big wigs were there too.

An article ended up running in the Orange County register.

In a nutshell, it'll be 2007 AT THE EARLIEST before we see another DCL ship over here.

DCL is looking at Long Beach/San Pedro; not San Francisco (this is per the Prez of DCL).

They ARE considering summer Alaska cruises, if the ship ends up being built to handle that environment.
