Okay… Here is my problem. About a month ago I planned a surprise “mini” trip to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. I figured I’d really surprise my wife, because we just purchased a home, so we can’t “afford” a trip.

My original plan was go down on a Friday night (4 hour drive), stay at my cousin’s house, go to the MK on Saturday, spend Sat. Night at a value resort-POP, do DTD on Sunday and come home. Budget about $250. :earsboy:

Well, then thanks to becoming obsessed with the board, I figured well heck we can do MNNSHP (never knew about it till DisBoards) on our anniversary night and spend one extra night at a Value resort (Sunday night/Anniversary). Plus I learned from you all that MK on a Saturday would not be a good idea, especially sandwiched between two MNSSHP nights. Added Night, bought MNSSHP tix, extra food. New Budget about $500. :guilty:

Then I realize, well if we are now going to hop between AK and Epcot on Saturday, now that I know we can’t miss Food and Wine Festival, I better take advantage of morning EMH at AK. Therefore I needed to add an extra night to my ressie. Sorry, cousin we will see your new house next time we are in town. New-New Budget about $600. :guilty: :guilty:

Now today the final straw, I am obsessed with Disney, bought the Unofficial Guide a week ago, which I have read front to cover, watched every Disney show on Travel Channel last week, been on this board every day even though I am not supposed to on the net at work :badpc: , plus I have a big project due on Tuesday. So today I realize why am I going to spend all this money on a romantic weekend and stay at a Value (I have already stayed at the Pop, plus 2 of the 3 All-Stars). Have only been to a Mod once, POFQ, we thought it was definitely worth it, of course last time with the FL discount rate it only cost us an extra $15 a night. This time it will cause us an extra $30 a night at the CSR. But heck at this point what is an extra $100. New-New-New (better be my last) Budget about $700. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

So the purpose of my story is that thanks to all of you DISNEY LOVERS, I am going to charge an extra $450 dollars to my CC. I expect a check of $1.00 from all of you within the next week. ;)

Honestly I love this board :grouphug: , I am so psyched for our trip; we will only celebrate our 1 year anniversary once. Forgetting about the budget and dying to see how excited my wife is when we pull up to CSR… PRICELESS

Its all worth it, I'll send the dollar!!! We just got back and I am jealous already. Have a magical trip!!! :wizard:

HAve a fantastic time hope you both have a magical anniversary :wizard:

And your address is??????

Seriously.....have a blast!! We will be there right after you!

You sound like me. I have suprised my wife with a trip to WDW a couple of times.

Usually though, with me, it is more coming home from a trip and trying to figure out some reason that we have to go again in the next 6 months or so.

Case in point, we just got back on the 8th and are going again with my parents in January.

Have fun and I hope your wife is as appreciative of your efforts on the suprise as mine was.

MG

P.S. I left your dollar in change at the bottom of the fountain in Epcot...it's there, just jump in and get it...ignore any bothersome people that try to pull you bodily from the fountain...they're just greedy. :teeth:

your not alone, thanks to my dad I dont know what budget means, and I always have to go for the best. That being said, I went from going to stay at the shereton safari with starwood discount, too staying an extra night at wyndham palace in delux room facing downtown disney, and extra 400 dollars, but man it was way worth it. That view alone took up so much time when i was back from the parks I didnt even watch tv, other then check on the weather... plus my mischeif side got the best of me some nights so when kids or young couples like me were down near the pool i would break out my laser pointer...i know its bad and may be illegal but i never shined it on them, just near them , like on a roof or wall. I didnt want to embarress them. Its soo much fun when things are new. We had an awesome 1yr ann. and im sure you will too. Just dont max out your cc, it makes your credit go way down, till you pay it off.

Thanks for the post, gave me a chuckle. Have a wonderful time, how nice surprising your wife. My buck is on it's way. HAHA You may end up at the GF at this rate. :rotfl2:

I left a Disney Dollar under my pillow the last time I stayed at Pop. If you find it you can have it. Congrats on your anniversary. Maine :firefight

My buck is in the mail;) Oh by the way you forgot the dining plan:rotfl2: And the carriage ride:rotfl2:

Have a magical time!:flower:

What's that saying...the check is in the mail! :goodvibes

You are great to plan a surprise trip for your wife. Bills will always be there but special moments such as your first anniversary only happen once.

I too have increased my budget and rewritten my plans numerous times since starting to read this site. I am officially addicted to the DISboards. The only bad thing about how much time I spend reading these posts is that now my DS10 uses it against me. When I tell him he's spending too much time playing video games he says he'll stop playing as soon as I'm done reading! :rotfl2:

If I send the dollar, will you e-mail my husband and tell him what you're planning?

Have a great time. What a lucky wife you have!

I suffer from the same affliction! I'd love to have a guy that understood. Mine just shakes his head and agrees with whatever I plan. I suppose that is a gift in itself. Congratulations and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too want to surprise my wife and kids with a quick trip. I am in the same boat as original poster, project coming due and spending too much time on DIS and other Disney related sites.

Sorry, but I think I am going to need my dollar :teeth:

Have a great trip,

I was feeling bummed out earlier because I get so excited when I talk about Disney and my DH always listens patiently but just doesn't have the same passion for it that I do. But then I sat down to the computer and he had changed my wallpaper to a Mickey Fantasmic photo! :goodvibes Maybe it's not a surprise trip to Disney but it's a start and I love him for it.

Ah, yes. Disney is very effective at separating a person and their money. ;)

Last October we planned to go for a week - arrive Saturday and leave the following Saturday. I started watching airfare (ATA) in Feb/Mar and it was right around $700 (for 3 of us). Well, when I checked airfare in April it had jumped to around $1000 because the flight down that we wanted was getting full! So what do I do? Instead of paying $300+ extra I added a day to our trip and flew down on Friday instead of Saturday. The airfare was now back to around $700.

I figured if I was going to have to shell out another $300+ I was going to get something for it! I thought spending that on another night at the Poly was money better spent. (That blased Disney thinking!).

Well, after all was said and done, that extra day ended up costing me more than twice the $300+ I saved on the airfare. $370 (rack rate!) for the Poly, another lunch, another dinner, another day at the parks that we wouldn't have had.

But, it was worth it. I think any money spent on Disney is money well spent.

Have a great trip!

Debbie

Great Post! I hope your wife appreciates all your planning. Happy Anniversary & don't forget you'll have to start planning your next trip as soon as your back. Your 2nd anniversary will only be a year away! :teeth:

I so understand you. But your wife is very lucky, my DH doesn't have a spontaneous bone in his body. He has never planned a trip anywhere, he just kinda is "yeah, ok, when do I show up." I would love for him to surprise me sometime, but a romantic he is not. :guilty:

Have a magical anniversary!! :sunny:
