How deep is Cast Away Cay's Snorkeling Lagoon?

my husband isn't a fan of deep water, how deep is the snorkeling lagoon?

Are there a lot of places on the island to snorkel or just the designated Lagoon?

Any tips to help him out?
Thanks in advance! :sunny:

I'm not a keen swimmer, very very much not a lover of the water, but i did the snorkelling on Castaway Cay with a few mouths full of water at times. The snorkelling lagoon is zero entry from the beach so it's possible to snorkel in shallower depths, but from what i remember all of the statues and things to see are out beyond 6 feet depth. Remember that you're wearing a buoyancy vest though and if you're happy bouncing around on the surface then you will be perfectly fine.

Out at the deeper depths i decided to be brave and deflate my vest to swim down to the Minnie statue, and the boat where there were a ton of fish hiding, a great sight to see. Of course then it's a couple of moments treading water to get some breaths to reinflate your vest back at the surface.

You have the snorkel gear for the day, so it's possible to take it across to other areas I think - perhaps someone else can correct me if i'm wrong.

Yes you're right, you can use your snorkel gear anywhere, however, it's the snorkel lagoon that's reserved for just snorkelling/swimming. You have to have one of the (free) vests to go in the lagoon and can use any combo of snorkel gear you're comfortable in. Just no floats, rings, toys in the snorkel area.

Snorkeling lagoon (family beach) -where the most fish and statues are- well over your head. You can not touch the bottom. It is also a bit of a swim to get out there. So being a a confident swimmer that you can get out there and back again safely is important. Pretty sure that the snorkeling lagoon on the family beach and the adult section of Serenity bay, which is considered open water, are the only two snorkeling places on the island.

Snorkeling is in the snorkeling area at the family beach and you can walk most of the way out to the roped off area, not far at all. Depth depends on the tide, at low tide I was able to touch bottom in several areas, at high tide it is just a couple kicks to get to the structures along the bottom. Compared to our normal snorkel trips in the Bahamas or Caribbean, this water is very shallow. There are also 4 life guard stands within the area.

If he would go to Serenity Bay he can snorkel there and it is open water ( No Netting to keep anything out). I have snorkeled there about five different trips. Very shallow and can touch bottom almost everywhere. There is a sandbar a little ways out and the most items I usually see are between the Sandbar and the right Rope area. There are starfish that are 10 inches wide, Conchs, Wild Stingrays (with Barbs), Fish, sand dollars, etc. Almost every trip I have filmed stingrays and watched them bury down in the sand.
