We have a trip planned for June 2-7, 2002, I have only been once in the summer to WDW (Aug '01) and it was terrible. It was extremely hot (humid) and very crowded. I'm hoping that this early June trip will not be as crowded and maybe a litle bit cooler. What do you think?

PS I'm from New Orleans so I know what humid and hot is, the only difference is that I'm usually at my fishing camp under the shade trees taking in a breeze of the Lake.

We were there from June 5-10 last year. The crowds weren't too bad. In fact the only crowded place was Magic Kingdom and even then mostly at the big attractions. Fast pass really helped a lot.

It did get hot. We used those squirt bottle fans and managed to stay pretty comfortable. Plus, we took a midday break back at the pool. The only weather thing that was a little tricky were thunderstorms that would pop up suddenly shutting down the pool or boats that we were on. Still, we managed to stay flexible and it wasn't enough to ruin our time. If anything, it helped to cool things down. Plus, Disney runs weather helicopters so they close down resort pools any time there is lightening on campus (which can be miles away from your particular resort, but it does keep you safe).

I won't lie to you. It's hot, June has the strongest sun of the year here which can make it feel hotter than it is in August. We were there the first weekend in June last year. It was very hot (and we're from South FL but used to a breeze).

It can be bearable if you find some shade, bring lots of water, and take breaks from the parks. Obviously, millions of people can bear the heat of the summer to visit WDW. The problem we had was that my dd who was 2 1/2 at the time would not stay in her stroller because it was so hot and she's usually happy staying in it. We won't go back again during that time til she's older.

I believe the first week in June is also Gaydays, there is a website on the events. Don't know if they have them posted for this year yet. But, the MK events were on a Saturday and the park was filled to capacity. We did a different park that day and didn't find the crowds bad. So, if you're not big on crowds you may want to plan your activiites around their activities.

When I have visited during the 1st week of June, the crowds did not seem nearly as bad as they have during my visits in March. Many school systems are still in session during the 1st week of June; we noticed more people in the parks and resort areas as we entered the 2nd week of June. We were at WDW one time during the 1st week of June when there were record setting high temperatures for those dates; a couple of days it was over 100 degrees! I would expect the 1st week of June to be milder than the 1st week of August. Check out the chart at

We always go in June due to the fact that I'm a teacher. yes, it's hot & crowded, but not too bad of either. We follow this plan: ARRIVE EARLY!!!, take an afternoon break/swim , & then come back at night. Have fun. We'll be there right after you. 116 days till the Swan...

We will be there too during this time period (staying 1-8 at POR). We went last year from the 9-16 and while it was hot, it was manageable. The crowds weren't bad and if you took breaks the weather wasn't bad either. The only place we were really bothered by the heat was at the AK, so this time we are planning on spending two mornings there. Hope to see you there, where are you staying?

We were in WDW the first week of June last year and found the crowds to be managable. We went to the parks early and left around lunch and took a break and returned to the parks later in the afternoon. We used fast pass and did not have more than a 15 or 20 minute wait for any ride. Take advantage of e-night if there are any when you are there. We did e-night on Tuesday, 06/05 and towards the end of the evening my girls rode Splash Mountain 3 times without getting off. It was a highlight of the trip for my then 7 year old. We rode Test Track using the single rider line and never waited more than 10 minutes. We waited until late afternoon to ride Spaceship Earth and it was a walk on.

The weather was hot but I did not find it unbearable. Drink lots of water. What I do remember about the weather is several thunderstorms. We sat in Chef Mickey's one night and watched a beautiful lightning storm. It was a great time to ride rides as soon as the bad weather passed, alot of people had headed back for the resorts and the lines were short.

If I could convince my DH I would go the first week in June again without a second thought.

Have a great vacation!

What I remember about my trip in August, was how high the humidity was in the morning! We were at EPCOT one morning and it was almost unbearable at its opening. I'm looking forward to the trip, but memories of August are haunting me.

Late May to Mid June are great times to go, you'll enjoy it with short waits and bright sunshiney-days. :) It's always in our practice to leave the parks for the hotel for the hours of 1-4, so we can chill out, rest, and recharge for the evening - You'll have a great week! We'll be there the same week as you - leaving June 2, staying til June 6, then hopping on the Disney Wonder. :) :bounce:

I truly love these boards!!!!! They are so informative. Ever

since we booked our trip, I have become a dis board junky. My

family can't get me off of here...

We are staying the 9th-13th, then taking the wonder for 3

wonderful days! I am so glad you posted this about the weather.

We were also concerned about how hot it is going to be.

Thanks again, everyone.

Anny:)

We have visited at most times of the summer and we always now go the last week in may and the first week in june this means we have to take our children out of school a week before half term but they would have taken there sats the week before.Weather wise it can change from year to year as it is the start of the huricane season it can bring rain or push it away ( gone 2 weeks without rain and at outher times had rain at 3pm every day ) as it is memorial day at the end of may and that is the start of summer holidays for you ( our kids have to go back for 6 weeks before they break up for summer) we find that the crowds are not as bussy at the end of may but start to pick up in june also note that the parks are not as late as high summer at that time of year

We go Memorial Day week every year (the Saturday before Memorial Day through the next Saturday). That's just a tad earlier than what you're talking about. Honestly, it's hot...but I don't think it's unmanageable and I can't image that one week's time would make a huge difference. I'd say it's typically about upper 80's low 90's.

It's not that crowded when we go because alot of kids aren't out of school yet. Here in the South, kids get out around 5/20-25. But, in most of the country I think it's later.

I think it's a beautiful time to go. We usually hit the tail end of the Flower and Garden Festival which is absolutely the most beautiful.

Hey, I'm also from New Orleans - Westbank. Where are you from?

Anyway, we've been in June, July and August and there's very little difference in temps and/or crowds. We're going back this August and I'm planning to be very hot...
