Hi everyone,

We are planning a trip for Sunday August 14th 2016 through Tuesday August 23rd 2016 - how crowded will this time be? Anyone have any experience with previous dates around this time frame?

Thx.

August is a transitional time for Disney crowds. We will actually be checking in on August 27, 2016.

Crowds start out as heavy summer crowds at the start of the month, and they decline significantly by the last few days of the month.
In your case: August 14th, I would still expect summer peak crowds. Not Christmas/Spring break level crowds, but still pretty bad.
By the last couple days of that time frame, you might see crowds start to moderate. Florida schools usually go back in session 2 weeks before labor day. That causes a sharp drop in crowds... As of August 22, 2016. So you may see a sudden drop in the crowds the last few days of your trip.

We went for 12 days this August, 14-26 and as folks who always go in May I can tell you the crowds were much larger than May crowds but still manageable. We arrived early every morning, had FP+'s and a plan mapped out and the crowds rarely had an impact on our day.

I can tell you the thing that did impact our trip was the weather. It was incredibly HOT every day with real feel temperature well into the 100's every day. We knew it was going to be hot, but this was AFRICA hot. Again, we are early starters, so by 1pm we were ready to get out of the parks on most days. I have to say even the evenings were really hot and most nights it rained.

Having said all that, with proper planning and timing you can really have a great time. WE DID!!

We have been in WDW the past two summers during the same timeframe you will be there. I'd personally rate the crowds at an 8 (10 being Christmas/Spring Break crowds). Meal reservations are absolutely necessary. FP+ is a must. Lines will be long for most attractions.

The heat is almost unbearable. Take lots of breaks (stores, indoor attractions, restaurants, etc.) and stay hydrated. It will most likely rain in the afternoons. Some days our whole afternoon was rained out, other days it lasted 15 minutes.

But, hey, you're in WDW! You'll have a great time...

Crowds will lighten up towards the end of your stay. Keep in mind around the middle of the month is when they unblock dates for AP so that keeps the crowds steady. Just plan and take breaks and make time to enjoy the water parks and pool. The park hours should be a plus though.. they normally wont cut those back until the end of your stay...

We went Aug 14-19 last year and had no issues with the crowds. It was hot, but that's to be expected for the time of the year.

We went this past August during that time. We were hoping the crowds would be dropping off but they had not. It was really hot and rained monsoon like rain almost every afternoon. We had ponchos and kept going, but it was tough. I would still go then if it was my only option. We are from Texas, so no stranger to heat.
