I know that Xmas and Easter are very crowded, as is summer, especially mid June and July. How bad is August? We have booked a trip for the second week of August, because I thought East Coast and Midwest schools started around that time and that the crowds would lessen. Am I dreaming?

We took a trip that was part of Easter break and the following week. I thought thte Easter break week time period was a nightmare, while the next week was fine.

Anyone with experience?

Julia

We visited in August, last year, our first visit at this time of year, we normally go in May or October, but because of school hols. here in the UK and the fact that many of our schools are now not allowing children time off during term time, we have to go during this time if we want a 3 week visit. We had a great time did not find the heat or the queues of putting, in fact we arrived at the parks for opening time on most occasions and rode most rides with no wait, it was only later on in the day that this occured but by then we were back at the pool having a swim or at the mall shopping and then ventured back to the parks early evening. This strategy certainly helped us cope with the heat and the storms, but we have found Disney more crowded in the past than it was in August, you'll have a great time, especially if you remeber to pace yourselves, drink plenty, rest plenty and have fun fun fun.

We also went last August and had a great time. There was a brief thunderstorm everyday around 3pm, but everything else went well. We did not find the crowds or the heat to be excessive. I'm sure you will have a great time if you decide to go.

The schools in Florida go back during the second week of August this year. Usually we go in August and it is not too bad. My best advice is to Get Up and Go Early!

FYI, Schools in the New York Metro area do not go back until after Labor Day.

Hi,

We went August 18th - Sep 1 - last year and really enjoyed the low crowds (except for labour day at the end) it was REALLY busy then.

The only thing I want to mention is that pretty well every day a storm blew through in the afternoon... usually 1-3pm ish... thunder, lightning, torrential rain...

The rain was welcome relief for the hot august sun and made the late afternoon and evenings more comfortable. A few times the pools had to be cleared for lighting strikes close by.

As long as you don't mind the intense heat and daily showers - you will have a great time, as we did. We scheduled our lunches fo this time period.. and the rain did not affect us at all.

I agree the later part of august is fine. We were there Aug 19th last year. Just remember to take your rain wear with you and you will be fine. We seemed to luck out last year and each and everytime it rained we were in a line for a ride and by the time we got off, the rain had stopped. this time of the year here in florida is our rainy season and it does rain almost everyday.
