How crowded before Christmas?

For the past several years I've had an annual pass so I've never been around the holidays when all passes are blocked out. We've decided to take a one day trip with family on Monday December 22nd. It will be very costly since we're buying one day tickets for 4 adults and one child. My not yet 3 yo will be FREE :rotfl:.

Anyway, how miserable will it be? With the majority of local APs blocked out and all deluxe locals blocked out could it still be packed. I'd imagine most out of town tourists would wait until after Christmas, but I could be wrong. Years ago I went on New Years Eve and it was fairly ridiculous (3 hr waits, yada yada).

We'll plan to arrive early and focus on our must dos, but I'm starting to get nervous that it's a waste of $500. I guess I can hope for rain!

Most premium APs are also local. The lower level APs are blocked because crowds will be high. I don't know why anyone would wait until after Christmas when school breaks will be in full effect by Monday. As the week between Christmas and New Years gets more crowded, it only makes sense that many people will be forced to go a week earlier just to get a hotel and to avoid gate closures.

How important is that date? There is probably going to be a multi day ticket deal for locals in January. If crowds are the deciding factor, consider waiting.

Yes, even though the APs are blocked, it will still be crowded, but not as crowded as after Christmas. After Christmas Break starts on the 19th, the holiday season will be in full swing, and so will the crowds, park hours, and entertainment. It certainly won't be as crowded as New Years eve, though, but you can still expect a pretty decent amount of crowds. Try to focus your day around shows and other small attractions with short lines, so the crowds will have less of an impact on your touring schedule. But mind you, you CAN still ride attractions that day, even those with normally long lines, as long as you get them done early, use FPs and SR, etc. You can still have a great time at DLR during the holiday seasons if you plan accordingly!

Good luck!

If that's the best date that works for you, then go for it! Don't focus on "how miserable will it be?" but on "how magical can it be?" Stay positive, plan for down time (e.g. shows, people watching, snack time, enjoying the decorations and atmosphere, picture taking, etc.) If you focus on your time together with friends and family at the Happiest Place on Earth, it won't be a waste of time or money -- you'll make lots of good memories. Be prepared, have a (flexible) plan, and enjoy!
