How common is it to have issues with the website and MDE app?

I have been having major issues with both today. Usually the app is pretty glitchy so I use the site a lot, but today the site is unable to load any of my reservations. Does this happen often? Worried that when we are in the parks that everything will go down again and we’ll be out of luck for extra FP and dining reservations.

It's common, sad to say.
Minor glitches happen often
Major ones that take it all offline, not as much but still way more than they should for the importance Disney put on it. Thankfully, they are usually quick (though a few outages have lasted days) so problems in the parks are short lived.
It went down several times during our New Years trip but we didn't have a direct problem with using our FP. They'd have it back up by the time I went to use it

Fairly common. Some I've run into --
  1. Looking at FastPasses in a different park for a certain date. Decide to switch parks, so I click to replace my current FastPasses and then make two more FastPasses. All 6 FastPasses at both parks show in the App. Eventually the original three disappear, but it takes a little while.
  2. Recently made FastPasses showing, but with the Multiple Experiences FastPass picture and not saying what ride. This had me excited for a few minutes the first time it happened as I thought It had somehow converted to a Multiple Experiences FastPass. Unfortunately, no such luck. It showed correctly after closing and going back in.
  3. I accidentally made an ADR for the wrong day (51 days out), so I went to cancel not 5 minutes later and the App wouldn't let me saying I had to call to cancel. Closed the App and reopened a couple times and all the sudden I was able to cancel the ADR. I've also had cases where I was able to Modify/Cancel ADRs on the website, but the App wouldn't let me.

Very common. Disney's various online sites have had issues since their inception. If you look at their jobs site, they are constantly looking for web developers and I guess they don't pay enough for top talent. That's based on what they pay Imagineers.

I've gone 3 times since the advent of MDE and FP+ .. I've never had "in park" issues with it, but then again .. I am not in it that much .. maybe a few minutes at a time and maybe a few times per day.

I only open it up when:
1) My wife is on her own and needs to use the maps
2) Just check/change fast passes (doesn't happen that often as I remember them.
3) Make 4th fast passes (a quick use while in line or while eating).
4) Checking photo pass photos.

I've never felt I had a time when I couldn't use it.

True, according to my H, who is in tech. We obviously love Disney and he would LOVE to work for them, but the pay doesn't come close to what other large, "top" companies pay, so he has never applied. We love Disney, but not THAT much, lol.

Edited to add: I did NOT mean to imply that everyone who works in tech in Imagineering is less talented...not at all! I think there are many factors that go into where one chooses to work, and salary is only one. It's a HUGE one for us because we're a single-income family, but for other people work/life balance, or working for a cause you believe in, are more important. The part I was referring to as "true" according to my H is the fact that they have frequent job postings and pay quite a bit less than other Fortune 100/500 companies for their tech people. Having said that, we used to live 10 minutes from Disneyland and have many friends who are cast members, many of whom choose to work there because they love Disney and/or it was their lifelong dream to work there....so salary was not the main motivating factor for them. And my H would never claim to be the "best" or "top" in his field, lol...he's just noticed that they pay a lot less. My apologies if I unintentionally offended anyone!

So, so common. It is rare that there ISN'T a glitch!

As common as the wind changing directions. It is actually pretty embarrassing if you ask me.

As a gauge, there's at least one thread just like this one almost every day.:) I can't see my FP, my ADRs have disappeared, someone in party isn't showing up on MDE... EVERY DAY.:) Good luck, it will likely get straightened out. If you don't mind waiting on hold you can call and get a human to help.

I had a glitch happen during my trip the week after New Years that I hadn't heard happen before. All of our fastpasses and ADRs on MDE had been shifted an hour earlier than what they really were. And then the whole system went down for an hour or two. Thankfully I have a pretty good memory and knew what time they were supposed to be for. But I did question it for the first FP and went right at the time where they would overlap. It had me freaking out a little bit, but then I looked at our fastpasses for the next day and saw that our first FP was set to start at 8:30 (instead of 9:30) when AK opened at 9 so I knew that wasn't right. Had me a little nervous on the first day of our trip, but it all worked out!

I've seen companies with pretty poor websites and/or apps but I have never seen a company that goes so far as to just about require customers to use them have one work so poorly and unreliably.

Yup, sadly, issues with the website, and mobile app are pretty much the norm.

I will say this, surprisingly, last summer I had nearly zero problems with the mobile app. However, over the years, it has been so unreliable for me that I don't count on it for anything. All of my plans, FP+ info, ADR's etc. are stored in a google doc so that it won't matter to me when MDE fails.

I see glitches all the time. Reservations failing to load, FastPasses failing to load, stitch eating the page, etc. Currently I have 2 trips booked, one for later this month and another one the first of March (I have an addiction...). The February FastPasses show up fine in the app and on the web, the March FastPasses show in the web, but not the app. No idea why, just how it is. For my wife, the same FastPasses show up fine.
