How come my shirts wrinkled???

I made a bunch of t-shirts for our trip in June and when we got home & I washed them, they (the transfer part) wrinkled really bad. I used 100% cotton shirts, cold water wash, low heat dry and HP dark transfers.

I want to make some more shirts for our big family trip in December 09 and don't want these to ruin also. My kids won't wear the ones I made for this summer because they look THAT bad.

Any ideas on what went wrong? TIA

Did you iron the shirts before you ironed the transfer on? I made a mistake once and this happened. I don't know why I didn't iron the shirt first, I usually iron all my shirts before I wear them, so not to iron the shirt first was not good. Other than that, maybe the transfer wasn't taunt when you ironed it..sad that had to happen..

did you use fabric softener?
can you put parchment paper back over the design and "re-iron" it again?

we just got back from our trip and alot of our transfers are wrinkled, too. In fact, some bled, but I figured they bled because I didnt remove them promptly from the dryer and let them sit...not sure why they wrikled though? Some did not, thank goodness. And I did not prewash them before the trip, but did wash them in vinegar when we returned home

When I tried this on mine, the transfer melted. I wonder if once they are washed, you can't iron them again?

heck, I iron mine every time I wash and dry it. I just turn it inside out to iron most of the time but there have been a couple of times when I ironed right side up with the parchment paper on top. (But I didn't use as much heat as when I was transferring the design onto the shirt to begin with!) of course, ymmv (your mileage may vary).

Where can I get more parchment paper? I guess I understand that it's not the same as wax paper, but I really found out last night. My parchment paper was getting pretty used up, so I tried to use wax paper and it stuck to the disign. Luckily, once it cooled of, I was able to wipe the paper off. Most of it before DH caught me. I won't be trying that again. I just had a couple of corners that won't stick. I want to prewash, but not before they stick good. TIA

You can buy parchment paper at the grocery store in the aisle with either the foil or the baking supplies.
