Just came back from the movie, and I really wasn't that impressed with it.......it was just OK. :o Maybe because the Sound in the theatre was TOO LOUD, and I could BARELY understand WHAT was being Said? And did Johnny Depp just over-do it, or what? I give this movie 1 and 1/2 stars...:o

I thought Johnny Depp was great!!! My only complaint was the length, I thought it was too long...dragged out. Movie was better than expected though.

Actors these days DO do a lot of mumbling and that was difficult for my hard-of-hearing hubby........it stands to reason that if you can't hear a lot of what's said (and some of the BEST lines WERE MUMBLED! ACK!!) you'd miss out on the "fun" of the movie.

As far as Johnny Depp playing a pirate, weren't pirates flamboyant? I always thought so, and thought he did a wonderful job in his role as a flamboyant scoundrel! What a hoot!!

:( Oh, sorry you didn't care for it. I was absolutely spellbound by this movie. I thought Johnny Depp's way over the top performance was brilliant. Sort of cross between drunk and flamboyant or both. Maybe if you go see it again you'll understand it more and it will grow on you. That's what I needed to like Lord of the Rings. The first time I saw it I was underwhelmed, but when it came out on DVD and it was all DD watched for days, I really started liking it, and now, I can say I love it.:D

I'm sorry you didn't like it. I was thoroughly impressed with it. The first time I saw it I was a little upset because the sound was too low and I was having trouble hearing what was being said. But other than that I loved it. Johnny Depp was hilarious and charming in a weird eccentric way. I thought it was absolutely entertaining.

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. We really hyped it up on this board, didn't we? :D I really liked it and Johnny Depp was what I liked most of all.:D

I do like that they included some of the ride scenes in it, I recognized ALL of them.;) But, it was a bit long.:o

First off Poohbear - I know how you feel - to this day I still don't 'get' what everyone saw about Pretty Woman?!?

However - this movie was like a kazillion times better then I had expected...I mean that Crunchy Bears movie didn't have much to be desired, hence the reason that I anticipated this one was going to suck as well.

IMHO the movie was brilliant and Johnny Depp stole the movie - he deserves a nomination for this one...

I recommend EVERY woman see's this movie...I mean, Johnny Depp? Orlando Bloom? For a full 2 and 1/2 hours??? Ummm....hello??? Is there a downside to this?!? :teeth:

LOL!!! Crunchy bears!

Sorry POTC didn't grab you, Poohbear.

We loved it so much, we saw it twice! Loved it both times, and never felt like it was too long.

I must say that the quality of the theatre and sound does make a huge difference in the quality of the experience. We saw it once in a stadium-style theatre with extra-comfy seats, a huge screen and superior sound, and once in an older, more ordinary theatre.

At the better theatre, you don't have to work nearly as hard to hear the dialogue, and the noise of other patrons is not nearly as distracting.

I adored Johnny Depp's over-the-top prancy and half-soused Captain Sparrow. But that's just me.:p

Did anyone else want to start singing "I want to sing and dance, I want to sing and dance..."

(*waits to see if anyone else is familiar with that song...*)

I thought Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom were great! Johnny has said in interviews that he modelled Jack after Keith Richards because pirates were the rock stars of their day and Keith Richards has lived through everything. So that's why he was so over the top.

I thought the movie was very well done. This is a definite must buy on dvd in my house.

I ABSOLUTELY agree!!!!!!! Orlando Bloom was the first thing that made me want to see the movie!!!!!:o :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

My DH only thought it was "good" and not "great." I loved it. DH did love Johnny Depp and felt like he stole the show and he did think it was much better than he expected.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but I'll either have to go by myself or wait for DVD.

Does anyone else think that someday Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow will be a super classic character like, say, Margaret Hamilton's Wicked Witch of the West? I sure do.:D

I was just staring mesmerized at Orlando Bloom for 2 plus hours. You mean there was dialogue??

I believe he said "Elizabeth" once or twice.;) Or was it "Kallison"?;)

I tend to disagree....Johnny Depp was MUCH better in Benny and Joon, this movie did NOTHING for me.:o

I have to admit that, while I loved Johnny Depp's performance, I too had a hard time understanding just what he was saying at times.....that drunken-slur kind of thing. But the second time around was much better!
