How come Boardwalk is such a low point value?

Wow! Maybe it's just me, LOL! It's on my DVC bucket-list though!
It's tough but there are ways too make it happen but it normally includes stalking the website and using the waitlist well.

Dean is a very knowledgeable & experienced user of DVC (and other timeshare systems). His experiences are by no means reflective of most of the rest of us. :)

It is certainly possible to book a BWV standard view (and most every other DVC booking category) outside of the 11 month window. However, it is very far from probable during the "DVC busy season". The take-way is that those who want to book standard view (or other very limited categories) on a regular basis are advised to own at that resort and book when the 11 month window opens.
But the options I used are well known and available to everyone both to use and from a knowledge standpoint. I wouldn't buy elsewhere expecting to get BWV standard routinely but it can be available at times. Having extra points is very helpful in this situation.

I say go ahead & spread the word as far and wide as you can about the unbelievably tacky and VERY CREEPY clown pool. The more people it freaks out, the less difficult it will be to get a room there!

IMO, the standard view villas at the BWV are the best bargain on site!

My feelings exactly!!! This is why we own there and absolutely love our home resort. I don't find the pool area creepy or tacky. Simply another type of theming.

Disney error when they first set the point requirements. DVC way back when was a small, not many bought, thing that was not thought of much. Since they can't raise the point requirement without lowering it somewhere else, there is little that they can do.

I agree, I think Disney didn't think they could sell that many points so sold BWV was sold with a lower number of points. With later resorts they realized more points means a higher profit and members were willing to pay the price.

I've heard the clown is haunted and it possesses guests who go on mass murder sprees throughout the resort. Happens every full moon. Disney PR keeps it out of the press.
It's all true....watch as naïve tourists climb to the top of the slide, and their horrible journey down...screaming as they are expelled from those big red lips.
carefully note how they are changed, seemingly possessed.......transformed from weary parents, jaded teens, sobbing toddlers into weird creatures who talk & laugh noisily, put arms around each other, and have an odd, almost alien, sense of relaxation and enjoyment about them.
don't let this happen to you & your family - be aware, VERY aware, & stay far away from IT

I think for the first two resorts - OKW and BWV - Disney wasn't sure how the sales and revenue were going to work out. My understanding is that BWV presented the management with a problem - there are great views at BWV, and bad views - so they divided the resort - charging a premium for decent views. In retrospect, I'd bet they'd have rather made the BWViews more expensive, and standard and preferred one category with a point cost that sits between the two.

VWL and BCV then opened with the BWV Preferred View point cost. With SSR they started playing with point values, and by the time they opened the MK resorts they'd figured out that the market would bear even higher point costs - resulting in the sale of more points. But they didn't know that when they started selling BWV. Plus, by inching up the points per night, they didn't have price shock, and people buying the Poly now look at the older resorts as point bargains - taking some of the disadvantage of "aging" away.

And I tend to agree - BW has two GREAT values - the wonderful BW View rooms, with a fantastic guaranteed view for what it would cost you to look at the parking lot at VWL and the cheap per night cost with a great location (but not necessarily a good view) of the standard view rooms. Its one of the reasons BWV resales tend to go for more than some of the other older resorts. (BCV has SAB).

I heard that some have entered the slide and not come out! :scared1:

Easy to get a BWV 1 bed Jan to Sept standard view if looking for a 1 bed- another example of my tactic when buying to buy double the points at cheapest resort so I can book anywhere DVC 'off season' at 7 months. The clown pool was modelled on a boardwalk game, where you sprayed water into the clown's mouth to score points- some bright spark thought it would be good with the water coming out the other way in the pool chute.

I would have given this a double like if I could. Hoping that it will be warm enough during our next visit to BWV (early December) for me to slide again!

"The low points are for the standard view rooms. Only 20% of the rooms. They face the driveway and parking lots. They are also right next to the luggage loading area, which can be noisy. But overall, you pretty much have to use the 11 month window to get the standard view rooms most of the time. They are a great value and one of the reasons we own here, along with BLT to get the standard view rooms. n2mm, Friday at 8:53 AM #6"

So if we get the standard BWV studio we will be closer to the elevator and laundry room. :) True ?

If we leave the outside slider closed, doesn't that help stop the outside noises ?
The closed slider door helped keep the pool noise out of our room at WL.

Yes with the door close it does cut down on the noise, but the beeping of the truck backing up can still be heard and starts very early. Yes some rooms are close to the elevator.

.........
Not necessarily. Not all of the standard view studios are close to the elevators. (The laundry room is on the first floor near the elevators). You may want to request near the elevators if that is important to you.
