We're headed to the DC area in mid February to visit the In-laws. (Oh joy)
I'm a little concerned about the weather. We don't even own heavy coats. I'm a Floridian, for pete's sake! Anybody have any idea how cold it will be then?

In most years it would be in the 30's/40's during the day and would likely dip below freezing over night. However, we're having a weird winter up and down the east coast. I'm a few hours north of DC and it was 72 this past Saturday.

I'd recommend bringing layers. Fleece would be really good. You could also get some long underwear which would keep you warm and be a lot cheaper than a heavy coat. Lands End has some nice ones. You'll definitely need gloves and a hat or hood which you could also order from Lands End. Water proof shoes would also be a good idea in case there's snow.

You'll be in and out of places so the layering will work a lot better than a bulky ski jacket or overcoat.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't even think about gloves and hats. So much to learn about REAL cold weather....

Who knows this year? It's crazy. Could be 62, could be 10 with a blizzard!
