How cold is the cold in January?

I am thinking of going to dlp in january hopefully to catch the end of the xmas season and get the best deals as it is cheapest and you can get a 1 day and night extra free offer. Obviously due to the cold I am thinking of staying in disneyland hotel as then I can take a break without having to far to travel to have a warm break in the hotel room.

In November we went and my daughter had warm clothing, warm ski boots, a fleece and a ski suit (jacket trousers) over the top, I will invest in some nice chunky gloves, she already has a lovely hat to keep her warm.

Me I wear thermals underneath my normal clothing which usually consists of jeans and a few tops at disneyland and thick chunky jacket.

Is this substantial enough to keep us both warm?

I was there late December last year and will be going again this year. When I was thre the lakes were all frozen over as were the fountains and it was quite frosty on 2 or 3 of the mornings. I wore a pair of jeans, a t-shirt a hoodie and a warm jacket and was fine. It can get quite cold in the evenings.

well we have been in january for the last 2 years and i have booked up again to go next january as well.

The first day we got there this year we had fantastic blue skies and sunshine, and that was on the 8th january!!! The rest of the times it has been cloudy and only on occassions was it windy and raining, nothing out the ordinary.
I have to say i always pack thick socks, boots, teeshirts and jumper/hoodie and a coat, or a poncho, as its easier to remove layers. plus the kids have hats and scarves and gloves. i have never been cold there as we are always walking around and going on the rides so you dont notice it at all.
The queues are nothing infact the only queues we had were for the brand new attractions chrushes coaster and hollywood tower, the rest you are straight on.

We've been twice in january, but a long time ago 1997 and 1998 iirc.

The first time it was freezing cold but gloriously sunny all day (we did a 1 night coach trip where you stayed overnight at SL, had a day in the park and then the coach went straight to Calais after the park shut).

The maximum temperature that day was -2C and the water wheels etc on BTMR were frozen solid. I had on jeans, a hat and gloves, a tee-shirt, shirt, Jumper and winter coat and although it was cold was okay. You usually find that as long as you are dry you can cope with the cold.

Your hat is your best friend in January.

It does get very cold - we were there this Jan and it was freeeeezing! Couldn't believe how many people didn't have a woolly hat on.

I was fine in a long sleeved top, thin little jumper over the top then my big warm jacket but I would have suffered enormously without my scarf hat and gloves.

Every year I contrive to forget my hat so I have to go and buy a new one. Shame.

I too have been in Jan and it has been minus 5 and snowing and at other times has been bright sunshine but cold. Lots of layers and things you can take off depending on the weather are the best bet.

Jan 07 was horrific when we went...the cold stung your lungs and your joints were creeky!! I took my gloves off to camcorder the parade and I felt VERY sick and sore, couldn't leave them off for long....erm ever watched 'the day after tomorrow'????
Jan 08 was freezing too but not as bad as 07 IMO but that might have been because I was wrapped up for the North Pole at the time????

Earflap hats, ski suits, thermal underwear and ski gloves!!! I think if you go prepared for the worst then everything will be fine!

When we went on thunder mountain we actually had to cover our faces with our scarves because it hurt to laugh!! Good fun though! wind chill at its very best...wonder if you can buy eyeball warmers?.....they nip!!

Nah seriously though as long as you have the right clothes you're sorted..you won't feel the cold!

Just smiling at the thought of 07 as we rode BTM like you with scarves round our faces as it was snowing so didn't see any of the ride but laughed so much whilst we rode it.

The wind can be really bitter - we wore sunglasses to protect our eyes (looked stupid but didn't care)!

We also took fleece blankets for the kids as when they were sat in the buggies they got really cold even though clothes wise they were really wrapped up.

We really like coming in the winter months, the queues are much smaller, we can go on Pirates "for a warm up", hot chocolates whilst watching the parade. As long as it is dry I'm not bothered about the cold.

Is it any colder there in Jan than it is here in the UK. Bearing in mind I come from the frozen North East.

I reckon it feels like the Highlands of Scotland....bitter, nippy, ice,....are a few words I would associate (sp?) with it. Edited to say..not sure what it feels like where you are Tiring Day but it probably the same!

I thought that was the highlands in the Summer

I always thought that DLP was on the same parrarel as Birmingham which should be warmer as way South of us.

But hey it's a Disney holiday, I am going shorts and t-Shirt.

I'm toying with the idea of a Christmas 08 visit, but walking around a Disney park in a winter clothes just sounds so bizarre for me, especially after having my only Disney park experience in Florida during June! lol. I guess I should look forward to shopping for the perfect coat and scarf/glove/hat combo!

I feel it the other way round when I think of eating ice cream in disneyland I mean whats that about?!! Seriously when I look at photos on the trip reports its like...'dude wheres your coat and hat'!!!
One day I might get to experience bare bits of flesh in DLRP but until then a girl has to dream!!!

minus 5 isn't too bad, nothing compared to -12 in Geneva 3 years ago or -22 back home ...

I'd expect the weather to be similar to the UK weather so as long as it's dry, you'll be fine. Just keep the little ones warm. I'm thinking of getting a ski-suit for DD2 (she'll be 2y 3m then) and just warm fleecy jeans for DD1. Should be ok. In Dec, I was ok in a top, a fleece and a jacket and wasn't warm, the lake was frozen.

I think you'll be ok as long as you're moving.

Thermals, two pairs of socks and a ski jacket did me fine- we were there 30th Dec - 2nd Jan and it was really surprising how much colder the last to days were.

I was there March 2005 and we had almost 4 inches of snow and it was magical, the castle looked beautiful and my 5 year old daughter was having so much fun she didn't moan about the cold once
Personally I wouldn't let the cold bother me, just remember those thermal socks!

Yeah, i enjoyed the cold and rain. I just must remember this time to pack trainers and not to wear pumps LOL. Took my feet a month to recover looool.
