How cold is it onboard the Alaskan cruises?

Just got off the July 26-Aug 2 cruise. We were freezing. Our staterooms had to have our heater fixed several times. My parents were on deck 6 and had the same problem.

I walked the deck each morning and had to have a sweatshirt on. Tracy Arm was absolutely unbearable, especially when it started to rain, so we all retreated to our staterooms to our verandahs so we could go inside when we were cold.

It rained a little in Skagway and in Ketchikan, but not bad

In Juneau, we took the skytram to MT Roberts and the higher we went the warmer it got. I have to say that wass the only time I took my sweatshirt off, LOL......

Now we live in the desert and our normal this time of year is 110 degrees, so maybe our blood is thinner.......

I hope you have better weather!

June 14th cruiser who is used to the cold in Chicago:

-never wore long underwear (but glad I had it)
-used gloves once or twice on excursions
-laughed on Tracy Arm day as everyone kept stripping off layers until they were down to a tshirt (got sun burn that day)

-excursions often had long heavy rain jackets that you could wear over you clothes, boots to go over your shoes, & some even had gloves

-fav piece was a very lightweight goretex rain jacket l
-2nd fav piece were my thin longsleeve tshirts
-3rd fav piece was my jean capris
-4th fav piece was a soft pink DVC fleece that I could zip up/take off if I was cold on the ship, usually on sea days on deck, or at night

Thin layers seem to be the key: thin rain jacket you could wear alone of w/ layers underneath, this long sleeve tshirts, thin tshirt for under a fleece or for layering w/ the long sleeve tshirts, thin sweater for dinner or a walk around the promenade. I would not bring parkas or anything more that a hiking boot or hiking shoe.

HAVE FUN!

We were on the June 14th cruise. I am a person who is always cold! I found the inside of the ship warm. I wore a light jacket inside and never needed anything heavier than that (even at night and in the theatres). Wore my sandals indoors. Had to dress a little warmer for on deck--polar fleece on the Tracy Arm day. There were also blankets available on deck. We even slept with the veranda opened a bit for some cool air (I know, I know--you're not suppose to!).

Wore layers on excursions--not too cold just a little drizzly. Didn't pack a heavy jacket and I'm glad I didn't! Didn't need the gloves or hats that I packed either!

That being said, I am glad that I had my heavy clothes 'just in case!' I would rather be warm than not.

That's how I feel...though I hate to pack more than I might need....I would rather have warm things if needed than not have them. I bought this fleece and this rain jacket and these snow sneakers from LLBean to bring.

RAIN JACKET

SNOW SNEAKERS - figured I need a new pair anyway for this winter so I might as well buy them for this trip. I have walking in the mornings with them to break them in and they are comfy.
