How close to your trip did you buy your airline tickets?

I am looking at tickets for Seattle to Orlando 8/30 - 9/6... I found the flights I want, round trip with taxes comes out to $359 for each ticket (could go a little cheaper but I don't want to do a red eye).

Problem is - Dh wants to wait to see what happens in price over the next month... I want to buy to get the flights I want.

I am pretty sure this is a decent price on airfare for a non-stop flight to and from Orlando from Seattle. We flew back in Feb and it was slightly cheaper - but not by much (like $100 total) and I thought that was a great deal.

So my question is - how close to your trip did you wait to buy your airline tickets?

We purchased our in Feb for an Oct flight and so glad we did. As of now the tickets have went up $421 per person. With 6 of us that's ALOT of money! So glad we booked when we did.

We are going June 24th...and we still haven't bought our airfare:rolleyes1

I holding out for a good sale, but I'm starting to get a bit anxious. The prices are ridiculous right now-about $400/rt each X 5!!!:scared1:

I'm a nervous flyer, so it has to be a nonstop, and we want good departure/return times, too, so we're being kinda 'picky'.

Hopefully something will come through....or else we'll be gassing up the minivan...AGAIN...:sad2:

I book mine as soon as I feel I have gotten a good fare. I figure if I can get something around $100.00 each way, I am pleased.

I am leaving the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, so I don't wait too long.

I booked mine last week. I am going out of BWI, non-stop both ways for less than $200.00, so I am quite pleased.

We just bought our tickets for May 29 on Friday. :rolleyes1 Nothing like waiting until the last minute!

Seriously, I was holding out for an AirTran sale. We were able to get our tickets for $184 roundtrip. :thumbsup2

I'm not going until Dec, but I already purchased Spirit tickets $138 rt includes taxes. They are usually cheaper when first posted and again within a few weeks before date. I cannot afford to gamble by waiting till last minute, need 6 tickets.

After years of flying down from PHL, EWR, AVP and ABE I know a good price when I see one and I'll jump on one the first day rates are released if it's 'good' by historical standards. I've bought 330 days out and I'll hit AirTran or JetBlue when they come out, I'm not going to let a good deal go by in the quest for a better one later, sometimes later never comes.

I'm going in Dec. and I purchased mine yesterday. I'm flying Delta and I kick myself for not booking them over a month ago -- the price went up $40 each ticket. I don't foresee my tickets getting any cheaper -- DH wanted to wait until fall to purchase them, but I insisted we buy them now. Oh, and just to make everybody feel better about their ticket prices, I bought 5 tickets from ND to Orlando for $2464 :scared1: That's $493.80 a ticket :scared1:

We purchased in January for May. I usually have an amount that I feel is a reasonable price and I book the tickets when the price hits that point. I don't wait around for a deeply discounted price. If a price seems reasonable ($200-$250 per person round trip for us) and the flights are at times when I want them then I book.

We booked 5 tickets round trip at $144 in January. We are not going until December. I have a price I'm willing to pay and if I can get it anytime I will pay for it otherwise we will drive. Haven't had to do that yet. Last year we waited for about 6 weeks prior before we found something we were willing to pay.

I book our Dec flights as soon as AirTran's prices came down from the initial price. Got our non-stop r/t tickets for $184 each.

replied in error. I have deleted. Sorry.

I usually buy my tickets about 6 weeks before I fly, the exception is my trip next month to Europe where I bought my tickets at 7 months out. I am leaving thursday for a quick weekend trip and I bought my tickets in the last week of march.
