I want to see my credit report to make sure nothing crazy is on there, and make sure my information is all correct, etc.

I know the 3 major ones are TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. However, when I go on their sites, they all want me to view it online, etc. I would much rather have it in my hands, but it seems to me like I have to buy them.

I know that you are entitled to 1 free copy every 12 months or something. Anyone know how to get this?

We got ours (mine and DH's) from freecreditreport.com. Bear in mind that "free" means they get your credit card number and you have 30 days to view it before you need to cancel their service or get charged $80. Oh, and it's online, too.

I use creditexpert.com, but I pay $89 per year. I find it totally worth it. I can check my credit report anytime 24/7, whenever the mood strikes. They also alert me by email if there is something strange they think I need to know about. As for your original question, I think you can call Experian and request a copy.

well, I live in Vermont, so by law we are allowed 1 free credit report per year.

I call each 3- and use the automated phone thing, and receive our credit reports in about 10 days from each company.

If you have been denied credit in the last 60 days, you too are allowed by law a free credit report.

i can't imagine paying 80 bucks a year...how often does the thing change? Pay your bills, and your credit report wont change...I get it yearly to clarify past things have removed...old car loans etc... and to make sure there is nothing not correct.

You can go right to the credit bureaus.

You are allowed to a free credit report if you have been turned down for credit in the last 60 days.

Remember, each time you check your credit your credit score goes down a few points. That is not to say you shouldn't check it at least once a year for errors, etc. Usually, the 3 companies will let you file a dispute over anything online.

Yes, they each offer other services that cost more but allow for access to additional info like credit scores, etc.

I live in Maryland and we get a free credit report too. Dh and I just called to get mine..and they mailed it to me. I dont know all of the states that are inclueded (I know some you can get it for free 1 per year and others you can't) but you might want to find that out and then..I found the 800# of each credit company and called each one.

It is a good idea to keep up on it..DH's found a lot of his dad's info on his...and we wouldn't have ahd a clue if we didn't check up on it.

(Keep in mind...the states that have the free credit report..they will give you the information, but they will not give you your score. If you want your score with it...you need to pay for it.)

Actually, this was a question in the FAQ on the experian website. The answer was that it only shows up to you on a report and it doesn't affect your score. I recently ordered the triple bureau report with credit scores. It's only $39.99. It's a good idea to purchase since not all creditors report consistenly to all three bureaus. I found several discrepencies that I had to dispute. I'm really glad I ordered this report because I wouldn't have known otherwise.
