How can we drive around Orlando from Disney?

We're staying at the All Star Music this July and we'd like to spend a day outside of Disney hanging around Orlando. Does Disney have car rentals on the property? If not, where is the closest car rental place and would we need to take a taxi there? Thanks!

On Disney property is Alamo and National car rentals at the Car Care Centre. You can visit alamo.com and just choose that location to rent a car from. They have a shuttle that will pick you up at your hotel and take you to get your car, you just have to call and arrange a time 24 hours in advance for the shuttle (front desk will put you through). When you're done with the car, the Hess gas station is right beside the Car Care Centre to top it off with gas, then return the car and they will shuttle you to your hotel or wherever in Disney you want to go afterwards. Hertz has a location called Disneyworld Kissimmee on 192 near AK, 2 minutes off the property. They will pick you up and drop you off anywhere on Disney Property. I've used them several times for 1 day rentals.

Avis (in the Hilton) and Budget (in the Doubletree) will also provide transportation to and from the WDW Resorts. You can (I have) also take the bus to DTD and then walk up HPB to these locations. After getting the car, you are very near Goodings (yeah - I know DISers - HIGH PRICES, but convenient) and Winn-Dixie to get supplies for the room!

DISers seem to gravitate toward Alamo and Dollar, but I have found (with the right codes) Hertz (they aren't #1 for nothing), Budget and Avis many times to be very competitive.
