How can this happen? Walking at 11 months blocked

As shown below, if you were walking a SV studio at BLT for Christmas week 2017, even if you have the 23rd and 24th, you can not add the 25th today (the 23rd of 2016)

I'd call and ask. That shouldn't be possible.

It'd be helpful in the future if you included the resort. I had to reverse engineer that you were talking about BLT. At AUL, VGF, and PVB, there are fixed-week contracts which could cause this to happen, although that's extremely unlikely.

I just checked and the 25th is available now. Dunno if it was a glitch or another error. There have been problems with the member site today, maybe it's one and the same.

Regards

Only ways I can think of are if either inventory isn't loaded correctly, the system isn't accessing inventory that it should or DVC has pulled rooms from that category out of inventory prior to the 11 month window to send to CRO.

Or for other reasons such as scheduled maintenance.

Theoretically yes, but I cannot believe that DVC schedules that far in advance. They haven't even planned some of the full resort refurbs that far in advance!

Nor is it likely they have pulled rooms for maintenance over Christmas. But it isn't likely they've moved those rooms over to CRO either. Most likely, its a statistical removal of a unit count by the system to plan for maintenance - that they aren't going to do over Christmas so they pulled it back in.

All logical.

I'm going to vote for glitch though. :music:

Sorry, I edited my first post to say it was a SV at BLT. (meant to include the BLT part originally)

I actually want Dec 28 - Jan 3, and was considering walking that reservation.
I have never walked before, but if I understand the concept, if I was able to book Dec 23-30 today (Dec 30 being the check out date), I could call MS on Dec 28 and have them drop the 23rd - 27th and then have MS add Dec 30 - Jan 3 and be guaranteed I would get those dates. However after what I saw (and posted) above I was not sure I really would be guaranteed the dates I really wanted.

Yes, that's how walking works. But I don't think you need to walk for those dates. As more people walk, walking appears more necessary, even when it isn't.

I thought a SV at BLT on NYE might be one time I might need to walk, but I agree the more people walk the more it appears necessary.

Looking at the current availability, (at 6:00 pm EST on Jan 23) a BLT SV is available every night from Dec 17 - 30, except Dec 23.
I would be willing to bet tomorrow evening it will be available every night except Dec 24. If so, some members must be walking those dates and calling every day to drop one night.
ETA: A LV is only 3 points more per night for the nights I want, so I will just try at 7:00 am on the 28th, and book a LV if SV is not available.

I had the same issue with the 1 bdrm SV at BLT for the same dates. the first two days were available to book but the third was unavailable. I have been trying to figure out how this is possible. However, all dates opened up yesterday and I was able to make my reservation. Hopefully it was just a glitch.

I am interested to hear what MS says. I hope the OP and cory30 both call and let us know the answers. And good luck to you both in getting the reservations you want.

Why would MS know anything? The system isn't going to tell them. Looking that deep into the record logs is likely to take someone with a lot more access and a lot more database knowledge than an MS CM - if the system is even set up to record the events and rationale. And if the system did tell them, they don't have any obligation to tell us.

The room was in some sort of hold state.

I've been trying to read up on walking a reservation. And of course I'm confused. My home resort is BW and I would like to book a SV Studio in either GV (1st choice) or Poly for May 2018 (Memorial Day weekend 25-29). What would be my best way to get one of these options?

These issues seem to happen more than we know. Something is happening to inventory, DVC will never admit it but something is going on.

I assume GV means Grand Floridian Villas?
Easiest way to almost walk would be booking May 22-29 on October 22,2017
Then 4 days later, call to remove the extra beginning days.

Note: any walking requires 7 days of available current use year points. (Then you can bank any unused points after the walk)

A full walk (Note: this is Not guaranteed at 7mo!) would be booking May 19-25 on October 19,2017. Then, every day you would need to call and adjust your reservation by adding on 1 more day and removing the 1st night.

But if owners at VGF already booked Memorial Day Saturday (5/26) 11 months out your walk is blocked.

Chances are probably high that Poly SV is available, as it is a large Poly category.

Yes. Sorry. I meant GFV. And thank you.

Walking is pretty pointless at 7 months, unless you have loads of extra points.

Whether they are issues or system features is something else we will never know.

Disney uses a lot of statistical processes to keep the joint running - they have for decades. It is completely possible that part of those statistical processes are room pulls for a full cleaning that would leave the room unavailable for a day or two while the carpet dries that would be pulled more than eleven months out. It is how I'd design the system for high occupancy like a timeshare - and I've designed a hotel system for a high occupancy situation (conference bookings).
