How can people be such pigs

So here we are in AKV and I am trying to have my usual cereal for breakfast. I took out the bowls and the first one was a little dirty with some sort of grit on it. No big deal. I got a few bowls down and on the bottom of one was some sort of Apple pie. Still mushy. Go to the next bowl and sure enough, Apple pie in the bowl. It was not dried, so that means it had to have been the people who stayed there right before us.

So, someone please tell me, why would anyone put a dirty bowl back in the cabinet? If you are too lazy to put it in the dishwasher, then leave it on the counter. That was pretty gross. I would name the room and week the offense occurred, but even in the unlikely event that person read this post, they probably wouldn't care.

Ick!

Since I travel with young kids, I often try to give the benefit of the doubt that it was chaotic in the morning while checking out, but... leave it in the sink at least!

How do you know that housekeeping didn't put the bowls back in the cabinet? We always run all of the kitchenware through the dishwasher that we intend to use during our stay.

I'm sure it's gross, I would be a little grossed out. However, it was food in a bowl. Food in a bowl makes sense. It's not like there was apple pie in the sheets or something...that would make the people pigs.

I also thought Housekeeping would run the dishes between guests? Is that not part of a full cleaning?

That is supposed to happen. There have been many reports over the years of people finding unwashed dishes/utensils in the villas upon check in.

In over 20 DVC stays, we haven't run into any dirty dishes or utensils yet.

That was housekeeping being lazy, they are suppose to put ALL the dishes in the DW, run it while they clean the unit then put them away. I would let the front desk and housekeeping know about this.

We have found dirty dishes put away in the past, that is when we started washing everything. Housekeeping washing all dishes doesn't happen, if they did that, rooms wouldn't be ready until 7:00.

Exactly. I don't see how anyone could think that housekeeping has time to do this. Dishwashers take time to run! Housekeepers have to be done with the room long before the dishwasher woukd be done.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Yuck.

On a separate note, this kind of piggishness is why letting non-DVC resort guests receive a gift card in lieu of housekeeping is a bad idea.

I don't see any reason for a guest to put away dirty dishes, I do see reasons for housekeeping to do so. IMO the guest didn't do it.

In all fairness to housekeeping the only other possibility would be if Mom told other to "wash the dishes before we leave" and other put them in the cupboard. You would think that putting them in the dishwasher would be the same amount of work.

I disagree, but even if that were true, I doubt you think putting dirty dishes into the cabinet is the way to let housekeeping know they need to be cleaned. That's what the prior guests apparently did, which guaranteed the dirty dishes wouldn't be cleaned before the next guests arrived.

I don't understand your post, the greater probability is that housekeeping was running behind and put the dishes away instead of washing them. Some housekeepers care about their job and do a very good job, others like life around has people who just don't care.

I have to believe they didn't do that or else I would never come back.

Sorry, it's not like an old bit of crusted food was stuck in a bowl. It was like a quarter piece of pie and it was relatively fresh. Maybe I wouldn't have had such a strong reaction had I not reached into the cabinet and come out with a handful of pie.

For all the times we have stayed in a timeshare (in country and out, around Orlando and other areas) we have NEVER had the problems that I see DVC owners routinely have complaints. Considering that DVC costs an arm and leg I cannot believe owners make excuses for Disney. Most resorts we stay at, do however, ask that the dirty dishes are loaded into dishwasher and that turned on when we leave. Some ask for beds to be stripped and towels piled together. Takes about 10 minutes total and goes along way towards allowing housekeeping to turn over the units quickly and cleanly. Generally we stay in a Marriott affiliated resort.

So I heartily disagree that units would take even longer to turn over by having clean dishes. Perhaps owners who don't help turn the unit over (ie run dishwasher) should have fines implemented and enforced.

Even if they ran the dishes through the dishwasher, I would rewash them. They are cleaning toilets and emptying trash cans. Do you think they wash their hands before putting your "clean" dishes away? Yuck.

That being said, I'd freak out about the nasty pie.

I am doubtful they ever do this. We have stayed several times where there has been a few items in the dishwasher, already washed. I think they only run it if there are items in the dishwasher. I can't see them emptying all the kitchen to put in the dishwasher, wait for it to end and then put it back. And what would constitute what goes in there? pots/pans/Tupperware? etc...

I don't see any reason for a guest to put away dirty dishes, I do see reasons for housekeeping to do so. IMO the guest didn't do it.

You must not have teens :-/ I could easily see my son with adhd doing this. wash it half heartedly and put it away, not realizing he didn't clean the underside.

ETA - I take that back. OP later stated it was a quarter pie. So a piece was purposely put away in the cupboard... My same son has done similar at home, hiding food in strange places that he wasn't supposed to take, and then forget about it... It is often not the adults causing these problems. I always give the benefit of the doubt, having lived all kinds of crazy in my own home.
