How can people be so mean.

Yesterday I lost me golden retriever, Buster. I had that dog for 11 years and I am overwhelmed with grief right now. I can't seem to stop crying and I'm a blubbering mess.
Why on earth do people feel the need to say "It was just a dog"
I swear I feel like I'm gonna snap.

I am so sorry for your loss. And I am not trying to compare, or to assume that I know what you are going through, But I am leaving my little guy for 8 days for vacation and it is killing me, I can't imagine how you must feel. People that say this, just don't understand. Just keep telling yourself what I have learned just recently. PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS. And if they are saying this, then they don't deserve the love of a dog and probably not much love from anyone else.

These dogs become part of your family and losing them is losing part of your family.

It's possible the people saying these things to you are just jerks. But...

If the people saying this to you are family members or close friends, it could be that they're upset at the fact that you're so unhappy right now. They don't want you to be unhappy. And since they can't give you your dog back, they snap at you, trying to make you at least stop crying. You're making them feel bad. But that's their problem, not yours!

You're in pain right now, and you have a right to be in pain. I'm sorry you're not finding the support you need from the people around you. If it's family who are saying these things, they probably do love you. They're just not showing it well.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

There are those who have pets, and those of us who have family. When I lost Keeta (she was just a year and a half old) I cried for weeks. I would wake up at night and cry. It took a bit before I could open my heart again, but I have 2 wonderful boys now, Aspen and Kahlua who fill my days with unconditional love and affection.

I understand your loss, and send you EHugs. And remember this...

Those people who say "It's just a pet" have no clue about the love one gets from our 4 legged family. I feel sorry that they either have not or can not experience that.

I am so sorry for your loss I can't imagine the pain you must be in right now. These people clearly do not understand the unconditional love that our furbabies provide us, the love is different, but all love is a gift should be respected.

I wanted to say so sorry for your loss...."it is just a dog, cat, pet" are words that I hate. When they have been a part of your life for years they are part of your family and it hurts to lose them. I still will get upset and cry over dogs/cats I lost several years ago.

Oh, I'm so sorry. It is so hard to lose a pet and there are always people who don't get it.

I see people who act like that all the time, they trvialize the loss of something that means a great deal to you and act like it should be so easy to get over. It is so sad that people act like that and have no concern for how people may feel.

Some people just don't understand that pets are members of the family and sometimes better than some of the human family members. Pets don't argue, criticize, say hurtful things etc., pets are loyal and love unconditionally.
