How can I stop a neighbor from feeding the squirrels?

One of the ladys a few houses down feels bad for the squirrels in our area and feeds them a bag of peanuts in the morning, and a bag of peanuts at night.

We have so many full squirrels running around they are hiding the nuts in out planters, digging big holes in baskets, etc...

We've asked her to stop, but she thinks they will starve if she doesn't...

What should we do?

Dig up the peanuts and take them back to her to show they aren't eating them right now? If she is older, you may not be able to get her to stop/ She may feel this is her mission in this stage of her life.

Get a couple of cats.

My FIL used to catch them in a humane trap and then drive them out to the country and turn them loose.

I doubt the squirrels will starve, but the lady probably feels bad! We had a problem of them getting in our roof last year!! Had that fixed - I have noticed many more around the house this year. Not sure what you can do though. Although getting a cat may help LOL!

Does she have all her wits about her? If not maybe you can talk to a family member and tell them about the squirrel nuisance.
Otherwise the live trap is probably your only answer. I have also heard you have to drive them atleast 20 miles from your area or they come back!

Another vote for a feisty cat. When I had a particularly good hunter around, I NEVER saw squirrels around the house. My current cats are too old and lazy so the squirrels are back.
