How can I remove a cigarette stain?

We just got an awesome deal on a washer and dryer set. The people had them for 4 months and were moving and sold them to us REALLY cheap. They are the Whirlpool Duet set. Anyway, they put a cigarette on top of both of them, I guess while they were unloading them. Not sure why you would do that on such an expensive item. It is on the plastic part near the front of the top. Is there anyway that I can get that off or at least make it less noticeable by cleaning it with something. I tried a bleach cleaner but that didn't work. Also, what can you do to get the smoke smell out of appliances? We have let them sit in our garage for a week to let them air out but I think the plastic drawer pedestals and the other plastic parts are holding on to the smell.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Try a Magic Eraser for the stain. Those things take out most anything.

:scratchin I just have to ask, how does a cigarette smell get onto appliances?:confused3 Most things I understand, but this one has me scratchin my head.

OK, if you mean the smoke smell is INSIDE the appliances...maybe try charcoal briquets or kitty litter or crumbled newspaper.

If ON the appliances, just lots of cleaning. I bought a car once from a smoker. Ugh, never again. I had to keep cleaning all surfaces to finally get all that sticky smelly substance off.

Now the smoke stain, maybe the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I'm thinking maybe a paste of Comet & small amount of water. Maybe even toothpaste , but not likely here. Soft Scrub with bleach. I'm thinking something gritty.

Will appliance paint (touch up size bottle) work on that area?

ElizK-Thanks, I'll try that. I have those but I hadn't even thought of that.

MOMTOOMOOTOO--They were in a house where people smoke. The smell of smoke stays on anything that is in the house(You know--kind of like when you get into the car where someone has been smoking). There are plastic parts on the washer and dryer and I think that is what is really holding onto the smell. We don't smoke so the smell is really noticeable.

Edited to add:
SplshMtn99--We were posting at the same time and both of us put about the car smell. Ironic, huh?
I had thought of the paint idea but was going to try all cleaner ideas first. I'm not sure that is possible since it is on the plastic part but if nothing else works, I will definitely call and see if they have it in that color.

Yeah my DH is only allowed to smoke in the garage. I hate touching ANYTHING in the garage. Its covered in that stuff.

It does come off, eventually. The car was YEARS & YEARS ago...so I used 409. I'm sure there is better stuff today that might work faster.
