Lately my dishwasher doesn't seem to get anything very clean. The bottom rack comes out clean but the glasses on top always seem to come out kind of gritty even though I use liquid soap. Is there anything I can run through it to kind of clean it out? Or should I try just running a couple empty loads?

Thanks!

Amy

try this:

How do I clean a dishwasher?
Use this easy tip and you'll never have to kneel on the floor to clean a grimy dishwasher again.
You finally got a dishwasher, no more tedious scrubbing at the sink when you'd rather be off doing something else. But dishwashers get dirty too, and cleaning them is no picnic. Do you remember the lady that got stuck in hers on America's Funniest Home Videos? Why can't it wash itself?! I mean, there is hot water, there is soap....why is it so grimy? Food oils and soap scum combine to create a tougher than nails soil which is nearly impossible to wash off without some serious scrubbing. No one ever has to get stuck in the dishwasher again with this tip.

Fill your dishwasher's soap cup with Citric Acid Powder. Citric acid powder is used in canning and for aromatherapy, it may be a bit hard to find but will last awhile. Run your dishwasher empty on the regular cycle and when it is done your dishwasher will be fresh smelling and sparkling!

If you can't find citric acid powder, fill a coffee cup with white vinegar and place it on the top rack of the dishwasher, run on regular cycle with no other dishes. This helps to remove dishwasher odors as well.

In a pinch, you can use a packet of lemonade flavored un-sweetened Kool-Aid or even Tang in the soap cup, but don't use other flavors or you may have a tie-dyed dishwasher! Now, that time-saving creation of modern technology really will save you time, and money! Your dishwasher will be more effective when it's clean and your dishes won't smell sour.

Does the inside have a slightly brown or orange color too? If so, run an empty load with Tang powder in the detergent holder. Also, sprinkle some extra Tang on the bottom of the dishwasher. If you don't want to use Tang, you can buy a product called "Glisten" at Wal-Mart. Tang is cheaper, though. We have to use this stuff all the time, since our hard water turns our dishwasher brown and makes it work less well.

We run ours empty with some bleach in it!!! Actually I think I have run it with dishes and bleach as well as the dishwasher sooap and had no problems. Also Jet dry seems to do the trick.

There is a product out there just for this! It's called "Glisten" and is quite caustic, so you don't want to have any dishes in there when you use it. Just put it in the soap dispenser and run an empty load. It takes the scum, lime and rust out as well.

My dishwasher has the same problem. I 'm also interested is what we should do also.::yes::

Run it through the washing machine :jester:
