I need some advice. My sister has offered to take by two children (9 and 10)to WDW next fall, 2008 and of course I am going to tag along. We were looking at Friday Nov 7 - Tues Nov 11. Can anyone tell me how busy it might be. I have only been there in October which wasn't bad at all. We are trying to have them out of school for only two days not three. They will have no school on Tuesday for Veterens Day.

I know that Columbus Day weekend is suppose to be really busy but have not heard that much about Veterens day.

Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks.

I don't know how next year's dates will coincide with all that's going on this year. There are 3 big events scheduled this year:
1) Super Soap Weekend - MGM will be a mob scene
2) Festival of the Masters at DTD - never been before, but looking forwad to this event
3) F&W Fest - this is the last weekend for the Food & Wine Fest and I think it's going to be VERY crowded.

I'm hoping that by early in the week things will quiet down.

Thanks for the info. I have heard about Soap Opera weekend but was not to sure how crowded it would be. What is the Festival of the Masters?

What is the Festival of the Masters?
From wdwindo.com:
Festival of the Masters - November 9, 10, 11, 2007
The works of award-winning artists will be featured. Downtown Disney celebrates the season with special entertainment and shops featuring unique holiday gifts.

Wow, good to know as we are leaving on 11/8th through Veterans Day weekend. Will MGM be busy with Soap weekend Sat, Sun and Mon? We can avoid that park those days.

Soap weekend is only Sat. and Sun.

MGM will be crowded on on sat. and sun. because those are the days the soap stars are there. As far as Mon. goes it will just be your veterans day crowds. we are going this year and avoiding mgm on sat and sun. Have Fun!!!

Thanks for all the info! I know my son wants to go to MGM so we will have to keep that in mind for Sat and Sun.

That is an extremely busy/crowded time. All events have already been mentioned besides being a long holiday weekend.

When I went to SSW years ago around 12 noon each day they had to close MGM cause there were way too many people.

Thank you to everyone for all their info. Does anyone who just recently came back have any new thoughts?

I was at MGM for SSW on Sat and Sun. Sat. was a madhouse. Sun. was better. We got there early at opening on Sun. and there was no wait for any of the rides. On Sat., there was maybe a 20-30 min wait for rides, but it was a zoo to walk around and get from one place to another because of all the soap fans and soap events.

Don't forget that the second Thursday in November is called Jersey Week because NJ schools close for a teachers convention on the second Thursday and Friday each year. As a result, starting on Wednesday afternoon of the second Thursday, the Parks get very crowded as a few thousand Jersey families decent upon Disney causing the Park to be very very busy on those two days into the weekend and on into veterans day. Be warned the Parks are very crowded as many families plan the long week because the Kids are out of school and mom and day are off on Veterans Day. Super Soap weekend also draws many people to the Park. Getting a reservation at a Disney hotel is very hard to do unless it is planned at least a year in advance of this event. Be prepared to for the parks to be very crowded all day and Fast passes may run out by noon or 1:00. It is a major event at disney and very busy week

You said next fall...2008?

We were thinking of going to WDW Nov. 8 - 16, 2008 too. I'm no WDW expert by any means, but following is the reasoning behind my picking these dates....

Looking at a 2008 calendar...Veteran's Day is on a Tuesday (Nov. 11th) next year so there won't be a 3 day weekend for federal employees...only the one day off.

According to Mousesavers...the Teacher's conference that creates "Jersey week" in the parks is Nov. 6 - 8 in 2008 (Thursday & Friday)

Taking both these factors into account, I would think Jersey Week would be from Nov. 1 - 9 and I wouldn't think Veteran's Day would have much of an inpact on the parks at all.

We were at WDW in Nov. of 2005. The first weekend was the Soap Star thing at MGM so we just avoided that park and went to Magic Kingdom instead where we found very low crowds which surprised us since it was Veteran's Day weekend. In fact, the entire week we were there, crowds were minimal except for the last Saturday which was the beginning of Thanksgiving week.

Thanksgiving is the last Thursday of Nov. next year, so I'm hoping by going the 2nd week of Nov. we can avoid those crowds next fall.

Of course everyone one knows the old saying..."the best laid plans".....or something like that. :rotfl2:

Since we'll be flying the Red Eye in from Seattle, we plan to just drive to our villa and veg' out that first Saturday...maybe go to the store...swim, but most of all sleep :lmao: .

Sunday, we'll hit the parks. By then the Jersey Crowd should be headed back home. At least that's what we're hoping.

I was thinking the same. We're planning for Nov 8-15, 2008. Checking in the last day of Jersey week and even if the Fed decides to give Mon to employees for Veteran's Day, I'm hoping it won't be too bad. Then again if the Fed sticks to giving Tues for Veteran's Day, Fed employees may take the Monday off (hey, it's only one day) and make a 4 days weekend out of it. :confused3
