How Busy Is the Zoo On a Saturday????

We are going to the Zoo on December 8th. What will the crowds be like? I can't pick up the rental car until 7AM, so I figure we won't be at the Zoo until 10AM or so. Will it be overly packed by 10AM?

The Zoo is rarely "overly packed". On a Saturday it will probably be busy, but it's not like you won't even be able to get close to the animals. Though if you try to see the Pandas you'll probably find a pretty long line. Some of it depends on the weather, too - there's more people there on sunnier days. The crowds tend to clear out in the late afternoon, too.

If you're picking up a car at 7:00, but don't think you'll be at the Zoo until 10:00, then you must be picking the car up somewhere out of town and driving? Because if you're in San Diego there's no way it should take you three hours to pick up a car and drive to the Zoo!

I believe the San Diego Zoo opens at 9:00 am that day so you won't be there too long after opening.

We go to the zoo 2 or 3 times a year. Even when the parking lot is full, you won't really feel overcrowded inside the zoo, except maybe for the concession stand lines. We went last July 5th and had to keep driving around the parking lot waiting for someone to leave, but didn't find the crowds inside bad at all as the zoo is so large. It's a wonderful zoo. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
