How blazing hot end of August?

Hi Disers, can someone give me an honest assessment of just how hot it would be at DLR the 3rd week of August? We have been in September (perfect weather!) and mid June (pretty hot but not unbearable). We're planning another trip in 2009 but won't have the same flexibility since DD will be starting Kindergarten.

Are we nuts to go middle/end of August? I need to know if it's going to be super crowded and really hot. Be honest.

Personally, I think the first week of September is hotter than 3rd week of August, or that is what I remember for the past few years. I would say to expect high 80's.

We were there this past August 23-Sept 6th. Crowds were okay start early and get fast passes. But there were days that we didn't use them. As for weather it was I would say from the 80-90's with a nice breeze. We don't mind the heat so it didn't really bother us. Until we went to Palm Springs and it was 110. Too hot for me but the stores were airconditoned.

August will be HOT. NO question about that. The question is, HOW hot. I can tell you I have lived in SoCal my entire life and can never get used to the high heat of late summer, which extends from like mid-July through late September, as a rule, but in 2008 the 'summer' seemed to last until November, when we had crazy 90-degree and higher weather. I won't even go to DLR in the summer anymore - and I am even beginning to get leery of going in the fall - because I just hate the heat and I burn too quickly and get headaches and things. Not worth it for me. So, that said, there have been Augusts I recall which were, as Mary Jo said, in the upper 80's (in DLR, it will feel several degrees warmer than that, however), and there have also been Augusts and Septembers I recall which were 103 degrees! There is no way to tell which way August 2009 will turn, but you can be assured that it will not be any cooler than the mid-80's and out in the sun in DLR it will feel hotter than that, jam packed in DL among all those people. So I guess it is all a matter of how much heat you can tolerate. Most folks seem to be okay with the 80's. Just wear lots of sunscreen!

HOT HOT HOT.......................

Oh my goodness. I am not a lover of hot weather either!
Now when I arrived at the Los Angeles Amtrak Station, I was already hot (This was for my visit to Dl. during the last week of August) from Bakersfield, (Waiting to transfer to the bus for the trip to L.A.) Even though I was not outside for very long at all. It did not matter. I told one lady whom I was waiting in line with, that I really needed to go over there, to stand in the shade. And if she did not mind my waiting there until it was my turn to give my ticket to the driver. It was kind of funny, because she took one good look at me, and said my your face is really getting red, and that it was no problem. I was very happy to thank her. Then on the bus, I ended up on the hot side of it again (Not literally) and the a/c I wish had been on a tundra setting, because it was not working very well. Thank goodness the duration of the trip was some how, a bit shorter from the scheduled itinerary. Still though it was a rather long trip. At some point, I rather lost count as to the time. (Sigh) Now when I arrived in LA, the weather was not as hot as Bakersfield, but boy howdy it was hot, and humid! OMG! Fortunately, I was able to get the very next train for Anaheim. That was wonderful, because according to my Amtrak schedule, I was to have an hour or so stop over. But somehow, I and everyone else that was traveling there, were able to board very quickly one of the trains. Ah, there is a god of travel! Maybe not of weather. After all, that is Mother Natures job. O.K. so now, I am in Anaheim, yay! It was just as hot there as in Bakersfield. No breeze, it was deceased. And high humidity! I was so relieved to see a nice line of cabs waiting, outside of the station, that I went to the first one immediately. Ah, tundra setting A/C two thumbs up, plus a bag of fine German Chocolates!!
As soon as I was able to get into my room, for my card key gave me something of an attitude at first. I attributed it to the heat and high humidity. (Actually sometimes, I just am not very good with those he he!)
I turned the a/c on, peeled thy clothing off, and changed into all Cotton! I love Cotton. Why on earth I decided to wear a top that is all poly, who knows? (Another sigh!)
That was a Monday. Then the next day, hot and humid, Wed. same thing! Thursday, my jeans actually did not stick to my booty! Maybe I should not have worn jeans? But my skin is too white for words (My legs anyway, ugh!) Yeah I know, probably More information he he! That day, the heat was not as high, but still hot. The humidity was not nearly as dastardly as it had been M, T, Wed. Now it is Friday, high heat and high humidity again! !!
I love the Enchanted Tiki Room. One of the reasons being the A/C! Total tundra setting! Jose and his feather songster friends love the cool weather (In reality parrots don't) So I attended extra shows, walked more or less slowly, had one park guest mist my face, you know those really are very nice, and drank plenty of water. I still rather wish that I had not worn jeans. If I looked like Cher, maybe I could have gotten away with just dressing down to my bvd's? he he!
Anyway, such is life.

Well, you get a range of opinions here and mine is different than some of the previous ones. We love summer trips to DLR and have done August twice and had a great time. I would have NO problem going in mid to late August. In fact my biggest concern about late August would not be weather but the possibility of reduced entertainment as DLR starts winding down from peak summer crowds.

Regarding actual temperatures, they of course vary from year to year but here are historical averages:

It can get a little hotter into late August and September.

Thanks, everyone - and great links, Hydroguy! Now that I think of it, I think it was around 90 each day for our trip in late Sept. 2008 and it wasn't all that bad. (We have small children so we usually go early morning and then back in the early evening.) The 100s scare me, though. I'll have to find some crowd info to see when the summer crowds start to wind down - hot and crowded sounds like a bad combination to me!

We were there August 24 - 31 this past summer.

Let me say that I live in Seattle and I don't do HOT!

I would say that every day we were there it was in the high 80's to low 90's with at least 50% humidity.

Honestly the weather wasn't too bad. The worst part of the day is 1:00 - 4:00 every day. It was plain and simple HOT. We would usually take a break during that time...go rest in the room, take a swim or go shopping.

Do read and live Hydroguy's rules....especially how to use Fastpass.

It will be crowded on the weekends and most nights, but it very easy to ride all the rides you want to ride if you follow Hydroguy's rules. If you have Magic Mornings take full advantage!

We had a blast and I wouldn't hesitate to go in August again.

For me weather in the 90's or even high 80's is too hot. The hotter the weather becomes, the more the tendency it has to make my skin itch, and give me a headache. I have an Aunt, that loves the hot weather. I always look at her with amazement at how she just really loves to absorb that heat, like a solar ray panel. he he! I just simply do not do well in the heat. I can tolerate it up to a certain degree. Then I better be where there is A/C or shade, and please no one bother me.

I agree with you, Gisele! It's too much for me - even low 80's is too much for me - and I get sick and very sunburnt (pale Irish skin, you know). It's is not worth it for me to deal with that and pay the price later. I would rather go at a time of year that is comfortable for me. Even Octobers are getting to be too hot for me now! But other folks have a much higher tolerance for heat and can stand more. I am more in the 'tundra' camp with Gisele! I was thrilled with this past December DLR trip because it was a nice, crisp 60-something in the daytime and in the 40's at night! My kind of weather and my favorite time of year to go to DLR!!

We went the 3rd week in August this last year and I don't think it was to bad. I live in central CA where it gets HOT so Anaheimn was a break for us.
I think that week was a great time to go! It wasen't that busy either.

Well, I hate hot weather so much....so for me, August is WAY too hot. We went a few years ago at the end of August and Anaheim had record temps around 108 or something. It was miserable.

You can go to www.wunderground.com/tripplanner and type in anaheim with your dates and it will give you a historical look at the weather on those days for the past few years.

If the forecast says it's going to be 80....it'll feel like at least 90 in the parks. It always seems a lot hotter once you're inside the parks.

Two years ago and previous August trips(mid to late) it was very hot. But we come from an area where when we left home the temp was 105 plus, so fdor the most part no big deal and I usually work out of the country in places 120+ so really not a big deal. With the amount of concrete and asphalt the ground radiates the heat and with the last of misters some folks can get real miserable. But all in all we like that time of the year because evrything is up and going and it is about the only time we all can get away to go.

It all depends on thresholds. For those that like hot weather it's downright pleasant. For the fairer skinned crowd it can be very unpleasant. I can't wait for the cooler months so I can get a break from the blazing heat.

August will see temps in the 100's though it tends to average in the high 80's to low 90's. The last couple of years have been very hot but more. September has been obnoxiously hot as well.

If temps are below 95 and there's a breeze you can usually find a spot in the shade for a little relief.

Drink lots of water and be sure to re-apply that sunscreen as often as they recommend. Enjoy your trip!

So to me, yes, it's hot in August, and I would avoid! But for someone else that may be perfect!

I agree, if you do not take precautions you will not have a good experience. We always return to the hotel during the hotest part and return during the evening. I have seen a number of folks get very sick from the heat.

Well if you are from Denver, it will be hot!

I love the hotel pools on these hot summer days.....back to the park at night.
If you stay at a resort hotel, you can pool hop. However, you can only use the pool at the GCH if you are a guest there.
