Anyone have one right now at home? Can you measure it from the neck to the bottom of the poncho?

I have a short 5.5 year old son. He is 42 inches. I'm wondering if these would be too long for him? Debating between buying one there if it rains (which is likely for our trip dates) or just bring along a small travel umbrella for him. Our other DS will be in his stroller with rain cover in the event of rain. I have a light rain jacket, and DH can use an umbrella. Just wondering what to do with our older DS...

I don't have one with me at the moment. But my ds is almost 5 and 40 inches exactly on our last trip.

We lived in these ponchos for our last trip! I had to knot his at the bottom or it would drag on the ground. But he stayed very dry in it. No way would he have carried an umbrella through the parks.

Good to know! My son LOVES carrying an umbrella! But, it distracts him and he tends to put it right in front of his head, so he can't see where he is going. :lmao:

He also LOVES to feel the rain on him, so I think he'd love a poncho. He gets a sensory trip out of having stuff fall on his head (he is always pouring sand on his head at the park) and when it rains here, he is in heaven, but he always gets wet! :rotfl:

I think you will find an umbrella to be a nuisance and I doubt your son will stay dry using it.

We have a mickey poncho for our now 44 inches tall son and we also had to knot it to keep it from dragging and catching on things constantly. It was great when he was in the stroller, but now I find it annoying. He also has a slicker with a hood that he received as a gift and I find it to be much more practical.

It does not fold quite as small as the poncho, but it does work better.

Could you buy a Disney kids' poncho and trim the bottom of it with some scissors? I might have to do that -- DS5 is 43 inches and DD8 is about 45 inches!

I had a 40 inch and 42 inch kid running around with them without any major issues. Longish, but not so long that it caused problems. Now that he's a little taller, they do fit much better though.

Honestly, what we do is buy ponchos in the dollar store. Then if you need them you wear them and throw them away. The Disney ones are not much heavier but are 10x as much. We buy a bunch before we go and throw them away if we use them. You could have a new one everyday for everyone for probably less than you spend on a Disney one.

Sorry, there are no dollar stores here. The cheapest ponchos at Target for kids (and they were HUGE) were $9 each.

I seem to think the Disney ones are cheaper. I was fairly certain my friend bought an adult sized Disney one at AK last year for $7.

And, to the PP who asked, no you cannot cut the bottom of the ponchos. They have a seam and if you cut them, they will continue to rip upwards.

Could you look around for a Disney themed raincoat b4 you leave? We have both the poncho and the jacket. We got the raincoat on sale somewhere (bad memory), but I think they had some at the Disney store too. The poncho we got when our stuff hadnt arrived on DME yet and the tropical storm hit HARD.

My son won't wear a raincoat. He has one here that he has never put on. He refuses. I think he'd wear a poncho because it's not as restricting.

You'll be fine. In December, my DD was 3 and 41 inches. We actually trashed our Wal-mart ponchos because rain poured in the head and neck. She did fine with the Disney ponchos. A little long, but she had no problems and didn't trip over it at all. She loved running around in the rain in the poncho. The only thing you have to watch out for is the stroller. If he is wearing it in the stoller, be sure to pull the poncho up where it doesn't get stuck in, or run over by, the wheels.
