Didn't stay on Atkins during cruise? Since early Jan I've lost 36 pounds and still loosing (got ALOT left to go)... following Atkins (or my own version of it) and doing well without feeling that I am on a diet. My normal day is:

Breakfast:
2/3 Cup Atkins Cereal (3carbs)
1 Cup Carb Countdown Milk (3carbs)
Premade Sausage Pattie/Egg Pattie (No carbs)

Lunch:
PB And Jelly on White Fiber Bread (6 carbs per slice, carb options PB and SF Jelly)
2 slices of B&B Pickles (no carbs, new ones made with splenda)

Dinner:
2 Hamburger Patties with low-sodium mustard
Veggies (Normany mix or spinach)

SOMETIMES a snack: low carb ice cream, 2 carbs per 1/2 cup or RS SF Chocolate Bar no carbs.

I am averaging around 3 pounds a week or so....

So here is my question, how much do you think I'll gain if I have some of the no no's on the cruise... ie; the desserts once in awhile or some of the soups... I don't plan on even trying the potatoes/rice/bread because I know I'll want them again when we get home and anyhow I can have them anytime if I really wanted, I just want to try the cruise lines specialty desserts and soups... will I gain it all back or look forward to 5-6 pounds that can be lost easily when I get back? Anyone else cheat on their cruise, etc?

I think you'll do just fine if you endulge on your cruise!

I think the key for me is that those wonderful desserts taste good for the first few bites and then they taste TOO sweet after that. Try whatever you want but don't feel like you have to FINISH everything.

Now, there are certain trigger foods that I cannot eat. A few bites is NEVER enough - it would just start me on a binge (potato chips come to mind  ). I won't touch those unless I'm very full with good food first - NEVER on an empty stomach!

You'll do just fine! It may take a week or two once you get back to get yourself totally back on plan, but the healthy living habits that you've developed are like home now - a comfort to return to.

Have a lovely time on your cruise!! :sunny:

I just returned from my first DCL 3 day cruise & a short trip to WDW. I also do low carb. I tried to eat meals with a good amount of protien and small amounts of carbs, but I did have a dessert every night of the cruise and about half of the nights in WDW. I think if you mostly stick to plan with one or two "no-no's" a day you will do fine. Another piece of advice is use the stairs to get where you need to go. That will help burn off those extra carbs. Anyway, I only gained 2 pounds, but it was also TOM when I got home so I think it was mostly bloating. You will have a great time! :D

I haven't been fortunate enough to go on a cruise yet but I would think you could combat some of the goodies you want to try by exercising more
walking lots, swimming, I'm sure they have every exercise available
power shopping there's a sport I can enjoy and believe me I can burn some calories doing it too

I went to a birthday party this weekend, and I told my husband that I was only going to cheat while we were at the party. Not before and not after... and I did it! I find that as long as I have a finite time in mind (such as at the party) I do much better. It sounds like you have a good plan in mind, and as long as you remember that you are going back on plan once you return to your own home, you will do fine. Have a wonderful time!!

I don't think it would be bad either. You have gotten good advice about how to handle it. Take the stairs when you can and promise yourself the second you are off that ship you are back on plan. ::yes:: You can enjoy your trip and then come back home and get any pounds you gain back off and be right back on track!! :teeth:

I agree, I would spurg a little. Try to do most of you carbs inthe morning, this way have the rest of the day burn them off!

My last trip to WDW had lots of planned indulgences and I only had a 3-4 lb gain. What worked for me was having sugar(dessert) only at the end of the day....that way any resulting cravings happened while I was asleep!;) When it's meal time, eat the 'good stuff' first...then taste the treats. I think you have a good plan to still avoid the potatoes/rice/bread and just indulge in the things that are more special or unique.

I also will "Hellerize" while on vacation. The Heller's low carb theory is to have carbs only during a one hour period each day. So you may want to think about picking a meal (dinner) and just have your indulgences that one time of day.

Really, all the extra walking really made a difference for me, so keep moving.
