How "bad" is Mission Space really???

MS is my MILs favorite ride- she's 76! I think everyone should try it.I love the ride but do think that they have toned it down a bit.

To be honest with you, years and years ago, I rode this spinning G-Force altering ride at the Space Museum at Huntsville, AL that was way more intense than M:S. Maggie

This is too funny. My dd's 5th grade class went to Huntsville for their big trip just a few weeks before we went to WDW. We rode G-force numerous times in preparation for MS. I even asked how many G's G-force had and found out it generates more then MS.

MS is a good ride; will def do it again. But the intensity was a lot of hype to us. I let my then 7 yr old ride it after I tried it. She liked it. (For comparison, she loves Space Mtn and Rock and Roller Coaster which she started riding when she was 6, but **hates** the Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags-Ga)

At least it was hype until we got stuck in those little command modules for about 20 mins one of our times to ride it. I do **not** do well in small spaces. I felt sorry for our 4th passenger who had gotten in with us from the single rider line. :rotfl:

I'm glad I went on it once. But honestly once was enough for me. After reading all the warning signs I didn't think it was as bad as I imagined it to be. But 4 other people that were with me were ruined for the rest of the day. They had to take gravol. It was a bit of a party pooper. The four that were feeling queezy after the ride didn't really want to participate in anything after that.

If you have motion sickeness issues I would just skip it.

If she likes the ride where you stand in the round room and it spins and pins you to the wall and then the floor drops, or Round up rides where you stand in a cage while the wheel spins, again pressing you against the wall, she should be fine.

I thought it was cool, but not especially frightening or overwhelming. I didn't feel any aftereffects (nor did I see throngs of staggering, nauseous people) Maybe that was Non Nausea Day at Epcot, but I purposely looked for all the people who are supposedly floored by the ride and saw not a one. That day, that hour, anyway.

That's not to mock people who genuinely had a bad reaction. I just don't think the reactions in general are as extreme as they're made out to be.

I definitely wouldn't recommend it to a claustophobic person. I'm not, but when the panel starting coming toward me, I thought "this would not be good for somebody with issues."

I'll ride it again (once) on an upcoming trip, but it's not something that I want to do more than once per trip. Not that kind of thrill -- more of a cool sensation.

I don't think age had anything to do with that poor boy's death. I truly believe he had an underlying heart condition.

I am an RN too and agree with your assessment ;) From the reports, his mother stated his arms and legs were straight out right before the ride began :confused3 I just don't see how a simulated ride could put anyone into a cardiac arrest, esp a healthy young boy?? Believe me, Disney would not have the ride open and when they did reopen it, they would have changed height and age parameters for sure. I wouldn't have my dd almost 4 ride it because I don't think she would like it (although she is tall enough) but once she is ready she can go on that and anything else she wants to :)

When we were there in June (11-18), our family rode it - DD6, DS12, DH39 & me (40). I get sea sick - even with the patch behind my ear that's supposed to prevent it. I was a bit dizzy when I got off, but not extremely dizzy at all. And we ate lunch right before we rode!! :rotfl: I figured that was going to be a BIG mistake, but none of us had a problem. They stress that it's very important to keep your head back, eyes open, & focus on the screen. We all did that, so maybe that helped?! :confused3
It wasn't my favorite ride, but I'd do it again.

My DW gets sick on Star Tours, Body Wars and also Back to the Future at US but she wanted to try Mission Space. So she took a Bonine in the morning and went on MS. She felt fine afterwards but did not want to go on again :confused3 !!! :)

I was so worried about getting motion sick ont his ride that I never thought it would cause anything else. WRONG! I was so close to blacking out during the lift off. I am an extremely healthy 22 y.o. female and it scared me to death. It was the worst sensation ever! I have ridden the gravitron at the fair millions of times, but Mission:Space is the most intense ride I have eve been on. I cried and screamed the entire time. I was begging themt o stop the ride. I wonder if they have cameras on each seat to monitor the people.

My head started getting dizzy and I got weird vision (almost tunne, I guess) during lift off. It was awful. :sad2:

Intensity of rides at WDW (Just my opinion):

1) Tower of Terror
2) Mission:Space
3) Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

By this I mean how many back-to-back rides I can personally manage -

Tower of Terror - I've done twice in a row with a queasy feeling at the end of the second ride
Mission:Space - Again twice in a row but felt I could easily have done it again
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - I've ridden 3x in a row with the worst being I was hoarse the rest of the day

No health issues for me, thank you very much.

Hi!

Me, DS9 & DS7 did Mission Space twice a couple of days ago. To tell you the truth I was a little scared about letting my boys get on this ride because of all the stories and because of the little boy who died soon before we arrived....but it wasn't as scarey as I thought it would be. My boys loved it!

I have trouble with rides that go in circles. I don't even like merry-go-rounds.

DS wanted me to ride MS, in the worst way, you know.."Please, please, please, it is soooo cool". Went first thing in the AM(before I ate), It was awsome!!! Once was enough, though.

Oh yeah, there was a young lady puking in a trash can, on our way out.

My wife does have a heart murmur but she is an avid thrill ride enthusiest and has ridden every major ride in the book

My daughter who also has a heart murmur that she takes NO medication for, just gets and echo every couple of years and is 23 years old rode Mission Space in February.

Her heart wasn't the problem though she WAS dizzy and felt disorientated for a few hours, her and her 3 riding companions all felt weird for a couple of hours though they were glad they rode it they do NOT feel they would ride it again.

I will be in Disney in November and am NOT going to ride it.

M

I rode it twice. I think that if you just know how to breathe during "take off" you will be fine getting through the rest of the ride! :wave2:
