How bad is Mission Space, really?

I love thrill rides and roller coasters and the simulator rides at Disney World don't bother me, but... for some reason I'm a little nervous about Mission Space. I think because of the spinning??
So, what is it really like, and do a lot of people really get sick? I read recently that every seat has a sick bag. If people are getting sick, that might bother me more than the ride itself...

Personnally, I didn't think it was bad at all. A bit intense at moments, yes, but I certainly didn't feel remotely sick from it. Just keep your eyes open (which is tough during the launch sequence for some reason) and foward and most likely you'll be fine. Actually, I think there's only 2 "space" sick bags in the simulator. You don't really feel the spinning, just the "gravity" created from it. I wouldn't have known it was spinning unless I had been told before and even then, it didn't feel like spinning. I was only slightly dizzy coming off of it. I've been dizzier from corkscrew type roller coasters. I rode 4 times (not in a row--probably couldn't ride even 2 in a row--like I said, intense) over the course of a week. Did ride twice in one day.

My family rode in Dec....nobody got sick..nobody had any long lasting nausea......except my 10 yr old who rode it twice in 20 mins...:smooth: :smooth:

My dh gets motion sick very easy and listened to the instructions and didn't have any long lasting effects...

important instructions were don't close your eyes, dont' look side to side and don't lift your head off the head rest...( I think)

We're a party of five, and while my mother didn't enjoy the ride at all, she didn't get sick. You really just need to pay attention to the instructions (as someone stated above) of keeping your eyes open and your head facing forward. You don't feel the spinning (as long as you follow the instructions...I wasn't brave enough to not).

I think it probably varies a lot from person to person. I don't normally get sick on rides, but after M:S I felt sorta queasy for about half an hour (I followed instructions carefully: eyes straight ahead, no closig, no looking from side to side).

I sat down and had a Coke and the feeling passed.

I don't think it's an experience I'll ever care to repeat, but I'm glad I gave it a try.

Hello there!
If you are used to simulator and other thrill rides, you should love Mission: Space. If you've ever been to a carnival and went on the Gravitron, it's similiar to that, but not that intense. At moments, you'll feel a the forces working but it's really fun. Just keep your eyes straight on the screen and don't look to your left or right. You'll have a blast. My girlfriend and I went on it twice in a row. I love it. Have fun!

I think much of the nervousness around M:S is due the "hype" about it. I was a little woozy when I got of the ride, and I am sure much of that can be contributed to my own apprehension about the expectations of the ride. Like BigTinkFun said, I was fine after I sat down for a few minutes.

I think you should try it at least once.

My family (me, DH, 2 DS's ages 12 and 15) rode M:S last month and it instantly became our entire family's favorite ride. Yes, it is an intense feeling and I probably wouldn't want to ride it twice back-to-back. We are all used to simulator rides, and although my older son hates roller coasters, none of us get sick on rides. We followed the directions carefully, and all we felt afterwards was euphoric from such a cool ride! We ended up riding three times that week, and I never saw anyone getting off who outwardly appeared to feel ill.

The first time I rode all I could say is WOW! It was a different feeling than other thrill rides. I had a four yr. old next to me and even she came off the ride bouncing with no problems.

Don't miss this experience! Take the plunge.

Thanks everyone~!!

Its funny, I actually planned this trip because I really wanted to go on Mission Space and then as it started to get closer and I read more about it, I started getting nervous. You have all made me feel better about it. I'm sure I will love it.

DS 9 and I saw a travel channel special where they talked about the making of MS and RNR and now he wants desperately to go on both (help me!) I'm just wondering for a MS first timer, do you think we should have eaten a little bit or nothing at all before going on, or does it matter?

the ride was very exciting and thrilling. My favorite part was the lift off. But as I said, I agree with bigtinkfun, I'm really glad that I rode it but I will never ride it again. I, too, love the thrill rides. Never get the least bit queasy on any of them, BUT......I almost tossed my cookies on MS:eek: TWICE...and I was walking a little funny for a couple of minutes after. Again, glad I rode it but it won't be a repeat ride for me.

If it's any consolation, my husband can't do rides that spin (the Teacups make him sick) but decided to try this one anyway. He felt no ill effects and has since ridden it multiple times. I say go for it!

Don't forget, Gravitron and tea-cups spinds side-ways, with M:S, although you are being spun around, it's forward-like movement, so it's more like moving forward really-really fast.

I've rode it twice. With all the Warning signs throughout the wait area, it will make you nervous. Can't really feel the spining, although you can feel the G's in certain points throughout the ride. I wasn't sick, just had to get my "land legs" back after I got off. Took me about 10 minutes or so. Overall it was a great ride and I am glad I have done it.:wave2:

i enjoyed it and didn't feel sick at all but i am not prone to motion sickness . imo it's not scary just fun and if you like thrill rides you'll like it although it is not really scary .go to have fun not be scared. ( so you won't be disappointed)

however my husband who did not take dramamine before hand and is very prone to motion sickness  followed all their directions ( I had warned him over and over and over before hand and tried to make him take something but he refused) and in his words" spent most of the ride trying not to throw up".he therefore didn't enjoy it and felt sick the rest of the morning and kind of out of it all day. not that it was nice to see him sick but I kind of feel that was his own fault since anyone prone to motion sickness is crazy not to take precautions just in case imho ( including my own hubby!!!:) ) of course now he refuses to go back on and i really liked it!

I must admit with all the "pre flight" warnings I almost headed for the chicken door. But I stuck it out and rode. As I remember there are "sick bags in front of every station. I made myself sit back with eyes open and didn't look from side to side. I thought the ride was great. I did feel alittle queasy after the ride, but it only lasted about 10 minutes. I will ride it again. I have to ride everything at least once.

I was a little nervous before I rode M:S because of all the warning signs. I can't do the tea cups and Body Wars (in the past) made me feel awful, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I did great on it and didn't feel bad at all. Just follow the directions and you will be fine. My husband and his friends though....that's another story. They felt a little funny for a little bit afterwards and needless to say, they didn't go back on. They liked it though even though it made them "woozy!"

It is a great ride and a favorite of mine!!

:rotfl: :rotfl:

DH doesn't like rides that spin and I don't do well on simulator rides. (I rode Star Tours this year and didn't get dizzy!) That said, DH didn't have a problem at all. DS10 was fine, also. I never felt like I needed to get the sick bag out, but I was glad when we landed and didn't have to take the return trip to Earth. :p

I'm glad I rode it; it is an awesome ride that is the most realistic simulation I've ever experienced. I probably won't ride it again, though. It was a full two hours before I stopped feeling weird. DD13 had a milder reaction than I did. She was fine after she drank a coke.

If you decide not to ride, don't miss the area at the exit. DS5 didn't want to leave! And this was after he'd been in there the duration of the babyswap. There's a training section for older kids/adults, too.

It is worth riding but we wouldn't do it again. We followed all instructions-eyes open, head straight, etc, and we were sick all day! We both had a headache and were so nauseous we hardly ate. We turned in early to be sure we felt okay the next day. I felt fine but dh had to take it easy the next morning. So realistic! We agreed it was a great experience but once was enough for us!
