How bad is Memorial Day?

Trying to narrow down our vacation dates. Due to other conflicts we need to choose between May 27-June 3 or June 18-25. We have visited the world in mid-late June before, but wondered how late May/early June would compare. I would love to catch the tail end of the Flower and Garden show if it isn't just an awful time to go. Any advice?

In May 2003 and 2004 we arrived on the Friday starting Memorial Day. I don't think it was bad at all (and we previously had only gone during Sept or early Dec, which is much slower). I also think its just a tad bit less humid than later on in June. The Flower show is beautiful! I'd give it a try! :flower:

I was wondering this too. My daughter is going to be at WDW from April to August with the college program and we are hoping to visit with her May 27-30. Of course, even if the crowds are bad, our main reason to go is to see DD.

Last year we arrived the Sunday before Memorial Day and stayed 6 days at the Parks. I didn't feel it was too crowded at all and had a great time. The way I looked at it, most of the school systems up north and year round schools dismiss for Summer break on the 5th of the month or later--or so I was told by clients and other friends. As an FYI, the first Sat in June is known as (but not published) Gay Pride Day at MK. If you find this a problem for you or your family, you might consider this when making plans.

I went in Memorial Day weekend 2004 and I found it pretty crowded. It'd be better in June I think

We WANTED to go for a quickie, last minute trip last memorial day, but ALL of the rooms were booked!! Well, there was something, but by the time my family decided to go for it - it was gone. That makes me think it is a crowded time to go. Even the lady at CRO said "Well it IS Memorial weekend....." Like what do you expect????

Good luck if you do go!!

We were there last year from the memorial day weekend through June 12. The holiday weekend wasnt really that bad to me. We did go to a park that Monday because we thought it would be crowded but on our way to Ohana's that night for dinner our bus driver said the MK wasnt crowded that day and getting into Ohana's for dinner they took us right away--yes we had ps but in busier times there is usually a wait.
To me it was more crowded the week of June 7-12, you could really see a difference in the crowd.

Hey, this sounds pretty good! I was trying to get in a quickie just to see Soarin' and the new MGM Car Show and forgot about Memorial Day!! It'll be aquick all right....arriving Friday and leaving Monday, but it's not our trip of a lifetime, so what we'll see is what we'll get! Best of all, I think I can talk DH into it!
Yipppeeeee!
Extra goodies.....I'm now a mouseketeer!

We spent Memorial Day 2004 at EPCOT and had no problems with crowds at all. We had lunch at the Garden Grill and got in 20 minutes before our ps. The Flower and Garden show was still going on and we got to enjoy that, as well as riding Mission Space for the first time with very little wait. We've gone at the same time for the last two years and find the crowds very manageable and the heat tolerable also. We'll go again in two years and it will probably be the same week.

When is memorial day May 2005? Will the days before memorial day also be more crowded?

Thanks,
Christian :wizard:

Memorial Day this year is May 30th...

we're arriving on Memorial day (the day after our wedding) and leaving :( June 6th

I hope the crowds and heat aren't TOO bad...

We were there the week of Memorial Day 2003 and 2004 and we thought the crowds were bad and the heat was outrageous. I'd compare that week's crowds to the week before Christmas crowds. The heat was really bad in 2004.

With that said, we're going back in May again this year (it is just such a convenient time to get away from work/school). This year we're going the week before Memorial Day (5/21 to 5/30), so I'm hoping it'll be slightly better, but I wont be too disappointed if it isn't.

We go every year the last week in May and the first week in June. Memorial day weekend is pretty crowded but the first Saturday in June is usually Gay Day at the Magic Kingdom. I have no problem with the day the only problem is that it is so crowded they usually have to close the park by early morning so other plans for this day would be advised. Can be very hot and humid this time of year so dress according. Have been there before when temps were in low 90's and humidity was around 95%. But all in all a pretty good time to go. We be ther again this year from May 26- June 4th. ::MickeyMo

My family & I (large group) are going May 28th thru June 1. Our first-ever trip. We are so excited that I really don't believe my kids will care if it's crowded or hot! Can't wait!

we went last year from memorial day weekend thru the next weekend

I found memorial day weekend to be HORRIBLY crowded

so much so, that we booked two weeks earlier this year hoping it will be much better
