How bad is it booking fast pass+ at the 30 day mark?

I feel better after reading some of these. Do you think I need to get up at 1:00 a.m. to get Toy Story for 5/18? That would have me booking this Saturday 4/18 correct? We have a 4 day pass with the first day in parks being 5/14/15.

I went last Nov and the only fastpass I wasn't able to get was TSMM. I wasn't interested in A&E, but was able to get 7DMT twice during our stay. I did have to try over and over (over several days) before the 7DMT passes were available. I probably tried to get TSMM 20 times before I finally gave up. So we did it at RD.

I booked FP+ at 30 days out for a party of 3 the first week of May and I was only unable to get A&E (not a big deal for us), FoF parade and the 9 PM MSEP--and the earliest I could get 7DMT was in the 5 PM hour. Wishes was available every night I looked at MK. And I had no issues with TSMM at HS. I was not going to change any of my ADRs for FP+ so I worked around them.

I also forgot to mention that we are a party of 5. Obviously, the larger the group, the more likely it will be difficult to get what you want, when you want. Bottom line, the size of your party is a big factor.

I got up at 1am for my MK days and my HS day. Even at that, I originally could only get TSM for around 5:00, but luckily a perfect slot opened up for 10:00am later on. Also, that got me a seven dwarves FP for 7:50pm, which is less than ideal but we'll make it work.

The other 2 parks I was able to get the rides I wanted at the exact times I wanted by doing it the next morning.

Just keep checking back for something better once you've made your choices... I'll be stalking the site until our trip 2.5 weeks from now praying for an A&E FP to open up. We have a pre-park ADR at BOG so we'll be at the front of the line, but I'd still rather have that FP in hand!

We were there the week before Thanksgiving and booked our FP+ after we checked in. Got everything but 7DMT. Worked fine, so 30 days out should be even better.

We weren't able to get 7DMT or A&E for our November 2014 trip. TSMM was only available for 5:30pm or later. When I checked th next morning for TSMM it wasn't available at all. I'd get up at the midnight/1am for your HS day & MK days. You don't need to for AK or Epcot IMHO unless you're going during Christmas, Easter, 4th of July.

I just went to a conference and wasn't able to book until the 30 day mark because I didn't have a ticket until then. I was pleasantly surprised to find that we were able to get good times for everything except for A&E, including Soarin, TSMM, 7DMT & EE. I was traveling with just my wife so we were very flexible with our choices and didn't care about A&E because we didn't have our kids with us. In addition, we changed plans during our trip and we were able to login to MDE on our phones and completely change parks for our FP and A&E was an option in the middle of the day. Again, we were a party of 2 without kids so no real need, but it was cool to see how flexible things were.

Being a 30-day “second class” guest who just went through the process, I can give you an honest and fresh perspective. While some of it is subjective, I will mainly stick to the facts. If you are staying off-site, you stand little or no chance of getting certain FP at 30 days out, mainly A&E, FOF parade and Wishes to some degree. You will also be limited to later day FP for 7DMT and to some degree ETWB. And depending on time of year and how busy, you can count on later FP for Soaring, Test Track and Toy Story. I did not run into any issues with Animal Kingdom. Now all of this holds true if you immediately log in at midnight (or 1:00AM depending on park closing that day). If you wait until the next day, your chances for 7DMT dwindle to the point where they will be gone, or at best only have very late times like from 9:00 PM on.
Now for the subjective part, it makes one feel like they are being treated second class for daring to not stay onsite somewhere. Disney is trying to entice (euphemism for strong-arm) you into to paying for one of their properties. Back to facts now, if you don’t stay there, then you really do not fully benefit from the FP system. However it’s advertised as the greatest thing since sliced bread for everybody. If they want to be upfront, then at the very least there should be a footnote stating something along those lines. What Disney should really do is level the playing field by at least reserving some FP for those who can’t reserve until 30 days out. That would be a little easier to take than fighting for scraps.
All is not lost though if you don’t mind constantly scanning their site your Disney Experience home page. A good strategy is to not book all of your FP for the entire group per attraction. So if you get 2 out of the 3 you like, then take the rest of the people and book single FP for different attractions around the same time. Check several times a day for the impossible to get ones with one of your single person FP attractions. You can then change that one FP to the new one should it show up. This greatly increases your odds because you are looking for a “single” slot instead of say 6 (if that’s your party size). This worked for me to get A&E for my daughter and granddaughter. I got 2 at different times but I was then able to later go back and exchange for new times that were at the same time (which was 12:30-1:30 PM, perfect!). I would say that I’ve put in a good 30 hours of combing the sites over the last 3 weeks, but in the end I was able to get just about everything I wanted. The only one that never panned out was earlier 7DMT. All 3 days at MK for me are at like 5:30 pm at the earliest. I have yet to find earlier slots that opened up. That one stinks because it doesn’t work well with the plan to leave the park at like 3:00 for a few hour break. So we are leave earlier, or stay later. Again it’s my little punishment for not staying in the mouse house, oh well.
Finally, you can do stand by with early morning ADR breakfast reservations before the park opens. You can get reservations as early as an hour before. This will get you inside the park early and at the very front of the rope drop lines before they let the masses stampede in. I am doing this twice. It does nothing for FP other than let you use them for other attractions, while you get to see the attractions with long waits before the crowds and lines build. Of course you still face the problem with most ADR’s being booked 180 days out. But again keep checking, people change plans and things open up. That’s how I found them. You can also use third party sites that will scan ADR’s for you for a nominal fee. This is worth it if you really want something that’s hard to get. I got Akershus lunch ADR for my family using this.
So moral of the story is, off-site = second class. But it does not mean you can’t get what you want if you’re willing to put the time in. I find it quite ironic that a vacation, which is supposed to be a decompressing stress relief, requires so much work and induces so much stress in order to just get what you pay for. It’s really crazy when you think about it!
Good luck!

Thank you for your post.
Ugh - I cancelled our family's WDW trip for last May b/c I wasn't up for the drama of booking FP+ for a party of 10. I now have a vacation planned for next May and would like to spend a week as off-site WDW guests before a cruise. I have myself psyched up that I can JUST DO IT. Then I read 30 hours over three weeks for a party of 5. We are a party of 10. And of course all 10 will not want all the same things, but will want enough of the same things. And Good Grief... should I even try?

With four DD, A&E are going to be must-do's. As is ETWB. And we'll all want 7DMT...

Well it's not all doom and gloom. It's just a lot of work, especially for a group of 10. I'm sure that with some perseverance you will get most of what you want. Good luck!

This is what I was thinking as well while reading your post, as well as the many other similar posts about FP+. It's a shame that what used to be viewed as such a unique *Disney* feature (FP's free and open to everyone equally) has now turned into this crazy, potentially hours long planning fiasco . Disney should never have created a system that would have any visitor feeling like second class. IMO that in and of itself is the antithesis to all things Disney.

It definitely sounds frustrating trying to get prime FP's for a larger party within the 30 day window. And a lot of work! If A&E are a priority though, and you're unable to get FP's, perhaps trying to book BOG for the earliest breakfast time could be an option? Here's wishing you some good luck!! pixiedust:

We did pretty well when we were there about three weeks ago. I did get them at exactly the 30 day mark.

I booked the dwarfs ride and two of the mountains at MK and Everest, the safari and Dinosaur at AK. Of course A&E was gone and so were the preferred seating areas for the fireworks and parade.

I watched this at the dibb to see what was left. http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=835236 I hope that this is pretty accurate.
Wow, that is a great site. Very useful tool even if it is not 100% accurate

I had been thinking Crystal Palace b/c per Josh's recent review of BOG breakfast CP seems yummier. Do you think the location and quicker service of BOG would make it a significantly better option to get to A & E? I can forgo some yumminess to see the Frozen gals. (Oh man - I'm sounding all commando again and I'm 13 mos out!) ;)

This is such a helpful thread. We always stay off-site in a family time share, and the issue of FP+ has been worrying us. Since we stay all day in the parks, we aren't picky at all about the times we get. We are hoping since we are only a party of two that we'll be able to get what we want. Fingers crossed!

We absolutely love the CP breakfast- it's one of our favorites! I'm not sure if BOG gives an advantage for getting to A&E sooner though. If you did decide to go with CP, I would guess that as long as you had the earliest reservation, you'd be out in enough time to hopefully get a head start on the RD crowd- or at least to be in the front of the group!

From the blog post and pics, it seemed that BOG guests had the advantage over CP for 7DMT but he didn't really address A&E. Where do they hold you after breakfast at CP? And are you allowed to walk through the castle or do you have to go around? it would seem fairly even with BOG as far as distance goes but if everyone heading from CP the 7DMT is also going to through the castle, that could cause a delay. Haven't been since before FL expansion so can't really answer, just thinking out loud...

it's worth noting that the Dibb tool searches only for parties of 4. But it's pretty accurate for parties of 4 or less.

Thank you. I also have not been there since expansion. Ack. Time to get back but I feel so behind.

I am wondering the same for BOG. We have 8:00 ADR and we can order ahead online. The plan is to arrive early and be out by 8:30. I saw where the line up for 7D was but does anybody know where they hold you for A&E? For the regular RD crowd, I understand that they direct you around the left of the carousel after you go through the castle, right after RD.

So I am now a little more concerned about scheduling fast passes. I had planned on booking my fast passes early in the morning the day my 30 day window opens up. I live in a time zone which is an hour and a half later than Eastern Time. That means I will have to be up at 1:30am here if my fast pass windows open at midnight ET and up at 2:30 am if it does not open until after 1:00 ET. Instead, I planned on getting up around 6:00am my time. I know that being on the computer the minute your 30 day window opens is preferred but, given that I have to do this a number of days in a row and still go to work the next day, thought it was my best strategy. Now, I am worried that I need to do the middle of the morning thing instead if I have any hope of getting what we want. Maybe, I can get away with doing that only a few of my dates.??? This is the DW part of my schedule for when we are there:

July 3rd - HS in evening (About 5:00 onward). Typhoon Lagoon in the day.
July 5 - MK daytime (ropedrop)
July 6 - Epcot daytime (ropedrop)
July 7 - MK evening (about 6:00 onward). Blizzard Beach in the Day
July 9 - Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon daytime

What would you do if you were me??? I knew we were going at a busy time this trip, but figured I would stick to my old routine of being there at ropedrop and using fastpasses to ensure we got in most of the things that we wanted to without too much waiting. Our last trip was in 2013 before fastpass+ and I naievely thought the new system would not be too different. From what I have been reading, I was very wrong.

I had an offsite .. relatively LAST MINUTE trip last October .. my group and I booked our Fast Passes under the 30 day window (not right on the 30 day day) and we had no issues getting things that we wanted when we wanted. The "big" rides (like SDMT) I could only find a time in the late afternoon or early evenings. (Which we weren't planning on going on that ride anyway). The groups booked Fast Passes separately and I was able to overlap my times with theirs so we could go on some rides together.

So .. despite it being under 30 days (and not knowing (at the time) that resort guests were making these choices a month previous -- I didn't have any issues.

I was able to book 3 fast passes in the morning and was able to obtain a 4th and 5th fast pass after the parade with no issues (again not any of the popular rides .. (I couldn't get any of the mountains or Peter Pan that late in the day). We actually lucked out and since Pooh was broken during our window the system gave us a "freebie" fast pass we could use ANY time the rest of the day (we used it on Peter Pan after dinner!)

At AK we were able to book an early (in the first hour) FP for the Safari. Had one for an early Lion King (which I don't think was needed .. but allowed us to basically walk up to the gate minutes before the show started)

The parks were what I would call crowded those days (first week in October).. but because of the Fast Passes .. I never felt I was waiting in line long . (It was just hard to move around). But if I didn't have them .. it would have made a very long day with a 2-year old.
