How bad are the cheerleaders?

Ehh, I dunno. People complain about these groups a lot, but I've never had a problem. I was at a resort (ASM) once when there were some cheer groups around. They weren't all that disruptive. They were out on the grass practicing their routines, but I thought it was cool. They're just some kids having fun, and it added a little energy to the place. I guess I don't mind that. As long as there is no real bad behavior issues, I'm cool with it.

CBR is a BIG place too. I could see cheer groups being there and you not even noticing.

I stayed there when cheerleaders were there too. Only time I saw them was when they were gathered in the parking lot waiting for their buses. I only went to the food court once though. Was probably toward the end of their tournament also, since they appeared to be leaving.

I stayed at CBR spring before last and at some point during the week cheerleaders checked in.

For the most part, we didn't really notice they were there. I mean we would see them practicing in the grass off of the walkways but for the most part that was about it around the resort. However, we really didn't hit the food court much at all.

While we didn't see them all that often I did have two run ins with them. We were on the bus back from MK one night and there was a group of them sitting right behind us and they were LOUD. I mean darn near screaming. They were talking and laughing with their friends which is ok but good lord, indoor voices people. They just had no notion of how loud they were or, if they did, didn't care how it affected the rest of the bus.

Also, one day at the resort one of the teams was having pictures taken. They were lined up on the bridge that connects Jamaica to the main pool area and food court. Picturesque yes but why they felt the need to block the only path to the food court I don't understand. I was walking up to the bridge and saw them lined up on it so I stopped and was going to wait but then noticed they were still setting up the shot and fiddling with the camera so I scurried over the bridge before they started taking any pictures. One little snot turned around as I passed, looked right at me, sneered, and said something to the effect of "you can't walk here!!!!!" Ummm.....listen half pint, if you don't want photo bombs don't block the only path to the food court and you weren't even taking pictures yet anyway so watch your mouth.

In short, while they weren't overly disruptive in my experience, direct confrontations are aggravating. I would avoid them if you can.

I've been on both sides of this. We toured and sang at Disney as a choir in high school and I know people were completely annoyed by us. We were a pretty big group and we would stay up late practicing and running around like maniacs. Don't ask where the chaperones were! That being said, a large tour group arrived at AS Movies the day before we checked out last year, it completely affected the dynamic of the resort (buses were packed, lines were loooooong at the food court, and they swam and screamed through the night). If I found out a large group was staying with us I would definitely switch or at least ask to be as far away as possible from their rooms! Teens will be teens, but I still don't want them to affect my Disney Time! :cheer2:

We had a trip booked during pop warner years ago. We had planned to stay at POP. When we found out about the host hotel being PoP, we switched to WL. We however, continued to notice, all during the trip, that the lines to the buses at POP were crazy long. We did not go out to the resort or have any issues in the parks. Buses alone would motivate me to change. Call reservations and explain your situation. Sometimes they can find discounts and sometimes even create discounts. Its worth a call.

We are staying January 17-27 at CBR.. should I be concerned about anything during this time frame?
We had a bad experience with teen groups several years ago at ASMovies..

I also had a bad experience with them. Our last stay they were at ASMu. The busses were awful. When we were leaving the park for the night, we were one of the first in line so got seats. But the cheerleaders were last to come on and this one teen "fell" into my DH lap 3 or 4 times. He was annoyed. Getting food at the food court was a nightmare, and good luck trying to get a table.

What dates will they be there? We are staying March 11-13.

14-15 March is UCA International Championships, likelihood is people will arrive during your dates.

16-18 January UCA College Nationals, again could slightly impact on a stay 17-27 January. Apparently all the host hotels bar Coronado Springs are sold out Friday through Sunday but there's no information after that since the event is over. Whether people will stay on a few more days who knows.

I don't know about events not related to cheerleading that clash.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

New here, so not sure if this is the place to ask this. But was reading the discussion so figured it is. I'll be in Riverside this May (May 1 thru 5). Will there be any there then?

This.

I consider it a gamble. I'm going for a week in January. I love POR, but switched to Pop. I figure I'd rather save $450 and risk the teen groups at Pop - i.e., staying at POR (even in a preferred room) will not guarantee you quiet neighbors. There's a poster here who said she stayed at POR in a preferred room Jan. 2014 and was surrounded by a teen tour group - said it was awful, and POR did nothing after alot of complaining. I'm not going to gamble $450 - and the hassle of dealing with the issue on vacation (which I'd feel the need to if I spent that much more!) - for POR.

I won't pay the cost for Deluxe (the only way to guarantee you aren't among a teenager group (but still no guarantee of quiet neighbors!)); I will go at a different time or go offsite next year if Pop is bad with teen groups.

I've been at moderates and values with teenager: football players, band (musicians - high school), cheerleaders and Big Tour Groups.

I'll take any of them over the cheerleaders. They are just louder.

We were at POR last January 2014 for 10 days at end of the month and didn't see any groups.

We stayed at All Star Movies last March. We normally stay in a moderate but decided to try a value with my daughters CM discount. The first few days had the cheerleaders, it was awful on the buses. So loud and not just the kids the chaperones too. I can still remember word for word some conversations. We left HS one night when they were arriving for a special event. They started filling up the park right before closing. They were pushy, loud and most had no manners. We decided a value is not for us even without cheerleaders.

We stayed at CSR in Dec 2013 and saw cheerleaders, but I think it was a group that was chosen to be part of the Christmas Parade they were filming. We saw them on the busses and in the main areas of the resort and they were all well behaved.
Now we did see a cheer mom in the lobby showing her "true colors" arguing about her room location when checking in. "Do you understand who my daughter is...."

She was setting such a great example to all the children about good manners....:rotfl:

Riverside isn't generally on the travel packages for cheerleading events - there is an cheerleading event The Summit runs 1-3 May but the likelihood is your hotel will be minimally effected, if at all. On the travel packages are Allstar Resorts, Pop, CBR and occasionally Coronado but usually just the first three. Obviously when you go to these events you don't have to buy the travel package and could decide to stay wherever but a lot buy it for ease/convenience so it tends to group people at particular resorts.

It also doesn't really have an impact on park crowds because you don't really get loads of park time with the events being all day at ESPN WWoS and The Summit is younger kids anyway.

On a January trip we ran into groups of college cheerleaders. They were very well behaved, however, their "perkiness" was draining. We had a flock, gaggle, or whatever you call them on the Kilimanjaro Safari with us, and they pretty much cheered for every animal they saw. Yeah, it got old quickly.

When are you staying at CBR? I am wondering if they will be there when we are there too. Oh no I hope not!

This is exactly what a friend of mine reported the few times she's been there at the same time as the cheerleaders. She owns DVC, so doesn't run into them at the resorts. She just notices the cheering in line and throughout the park. I imagine it could get old after a while.

Even if you have a "quiet" group of cheerleaders - or any group for that matter - they still can be disruptive as they often travel in herds. A big complaint of Pop Warner, aside from the noise, is that they take up significant room in the food courts and pool areas since they all tend to stick together, their tournaments are together, etc. This could make for an unpleasant day at the pool and/or long lines at the food court.

IMO, both the pool and food court at CBR are not large enough for as big as that resort is so I'd be nervous about that. We stayed there in November when there wasn't a group around, and still had a tough time getting a seat at the food court.
