I am planning on going to DL at the beginning of March, March 4, 5, and 6. I heard that the cheerleading convention in the weekend following our stay. We will be there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and the convention starts Friday. When do they normally arrive? I hope not before Friday!!! And if so, how big is it and how will it affect us? I think I have heard it's horrible, but I'm not sure.

TIA!

I hope you get lucky but my best advice is to do everything you can in Disneyland on Tuesday and Wednesday. I would save DCA for Thursday and hope the girls are in DL instead. The cheerleader weekends are crazy and it's amazing how loud girls can get!
At least you aren't there for the weekend, right!?!

I've been to both DLR and DCA during their competitions, and it's what's to be expected when you gather a large amount of teenage girls in one spot... It does get loud and cheery-like, and they do impact the crowds. I don't recall any one bad incident, I just remembered being in line for Soarin' and having to listen to a group go over the same cheer, over and over and over again.. :sad2: If you're going during the week though, you shouldn't have much to worry about, since I'm imagining the girls will be in school.

Be careful how you word this! I don't want this thread to turn into the other about how the mother wanted to avoid homosexual PDA on Gay Days... You never know if there's a cheerleader out there on the Dis... :lmao:

Oh dear...don't get me started...AND I was one back in the day!! We went one year during this time and it was SO busy and annoying! NOTHING against the girls as I was seriously an obnoxious teen myself...but to stand in lines all day with them and walk around the park with them was not fun FOR ME!!

There will also be a big cheerleading convention the last weekend of March. This will be at the Anaheim Convention Center, but they will be at DL in their free time, I'm sure.

This one isn't too bad as it is also around the weeks of spring breaks - so you have to contend with crowds either way. Also, a lot of the coaches make the cheerleaders stay @ the ACC through the whole day since the finalists aren't announced until the end. And they may have to perform again that evening or the next day so they don't want them tired. (at least those that are competitive)

Cheer mom checking in to keep you all in line here! ;)

The competition is USA Nationals and they have divisions for dance, drill, and cheer. So yes, it's a pretty big deal... but not nearly as big as the competition in Florida.
(see, doesn't that make you feel better?) :cheer2:

I really don't think many teams will come in early enough to impact the begining of the week much, if at all.

Last year DD's team pulled into Anaheim about 3 hours before their first scheduled performance and had to leave to catch their plane before awards were concluded at finals. Good thing a few parents were able to stay behind to collect their trophy.
They spent precious little time in between at the parks either
(believe me I heard about the unfairness of it all) :rotfl:

Teams have to qualify to even apply to this particular competition, so most of them are pretty serious about what their focus is. That said, teams that don't make finals could be out in full force toward the end of the weekend.

One more heads up... I think worse than isues at the parks can be staying in the wrong hotel that weekend. Some coaches make the kids really toe the line but others seem to have no control whatsoever.
I know there are some DL area hotels that have stopped allowing any group rates that weekend... in an attempt to get the teams to stay elsewhere no doubt.

Damn! So in other words there will be crowds - possibly annoying crowds :rolleyes1 - when I'm there... Should I rearrange my trip to try and be in L.A over one of these days? Luckily I've got 6 days at the parks, but three of those days were going to be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. :sad2:

I am going to be there that weekend. :scared1: Can they really be worse than all the tour groups I always have to put up with in WDW in July?????:confused3 I will just think happy thoughts. :hippie:

Last weekend in March too???

We will be at Disneyland March 29-April 3.

I am sure if our hotel was full of screaming cheerleaders DH and DS would be like this though :

:love: :banana: popcorn::

LOL!

No cheerleaders on the calendar that weekend that I can see. :confused3

Looks like you might luck out... but when your guys realize what they're missing:

:furious:  :faint:

I think those are our trip dates!:scared1: March 8-10:sad1:
I was contemplating moving our dates to Superbowl weekend, but then we'd miss Fantasmic. Help! Should we stick to our dates to see Fantasmic and chance bigger crowds? I don't really mind cheerleaders, I'm just trying to go when it's not as busy.

I know the Anaheim Plaza is one of the hotels for cheerleaders at the end of March. Don't know which others are, though.

I was there last year during that competitiion and stayed at the WRONG hotel . .the parks themselves weren't too bad. . . the hotel on the other hand. . lets just say I put a complaint in to the front desk that they seriously needed to remove the people from the pool cuz i was not able to sleep, and it was close to 11 when I called. . . on the flip side of it, most of the parents of teen boys were telling me how their boys had that attitude about being with the family until they saw what they were amongst GIRLS and lots of em!:rotfl2:
