Cheer mom checking in to keep you all in line here!
The competition is USA Nationals and they have divisions for dance, drill, and cheer. So yes, it's a pretty big deal... but not nearly as big as the competition in Florida.
(see, doesn't that make you feel better?)
I really don't think many teams will come in early enough to impact the begining of the week much, if at all.
Last year DD's team pulled into Anaheim about 3 hours before their first scheduled performance and had to leave to catch their plane before awards were concluded at finals. Good thing a few parents were able to stay behind to collect their trophy.
They spent precious little time in between at the parks either
(believe me I heard about the unfairness of it all)
Teams have to qualify to even apply to this particular competition, so most of them are pretty serious about what their focus is. That said, teams that don't make finals could be out in full force toward the end of the weekend.
One more heads up... I think worse than isues at the parks can be staying in the wrong hotel that weekend. Some coaches make the kids really toe the line but others seem to have no control whatsoever.
I know there are some DL area hotels that have stopped allowing any group rates that weekend... in an attempt to get the teams to stay elsewhere no doubt.
