How are your melons?

My watermelons were great this year. Here's a pic of the second largest watermelon weighing in at 21lbs. Mmmmmgood.

They took over the patio and kept growing and growing. The conditions on the patio are perfect for melons and pumpkins. We may never get to use it as a patio during the growing season Einstein discovered the last one for us. It was hidden from view under leaves. He luvs watermelons

They are sooooo good. We have two more to eat. Yum I lost only one to the woodchuck
He got all but one of our pumpkins too

Sure you could! I think the secret is in the seed.
The seeds are Charleston Gray. We've bought them before and had very good results but the woodchucks destroyed most of them. This year we grew them closer to the house on the patio. Around the patio is soil that the seeds were planted in then they just spread out over the patio taking over. The patio gets full sun most of the day.

"The Charleston Gray Watermelon produces long vigorous and is resistant to anthracnose, fusarium wilt and sunburn. The variety will prosper just about anywhere where watermelons may be grown and produces uniform, long oval watermelons with a light green rind with a slight gray color. Each watermelon weighs from 25 to 30 pounds and possesss a fine red flesh that has a firm texture and a very sweet flavor with large brownish-black seeds.
Matures in 85 days. "

Congratulations!!!

It's been a long time since I've attempted watermelons or cantalopes. The best I ever was able to do was get wonderful looking fruit. The taste always was a disappointment.
